Went to the Oregon coast and ran too lean. Have a 2006 trx450er with HRC kit and Muzzy full exhaust. Took a look at the oil filter and full of aluminum filings. Stupid hurts the bank account. I need a big bore kit ASAP! Have a trip to the coast planned for middle of April. I do not want any more compression, just a larger bore. By the amount of aluminum in the oil filter I figured it scoured the cylinder walls and took out the piston. Anybody have any idea where I could purchase a kit? Your help will be appreciated greatly!

One of the more popular choices...

Hmm says their out of stock until 3/27...Call around, and search for the Athena Big bore Kit if you need it faster

You may have bigger problems than just the cylinder bore!!!

I change the oil and filter every 10-15 hours. Take good care of the bike, just screwed up on the jetting for the weekend. Ran great for a couple of days. One of those mistakes you never forget.

Ummmmmmm.................I think you may want to check your crank!

Sounds like you are nearing the same prob I had on my 06.

ypu should try one of those nmotion big bore kits

i think the biggest you can go is 564cc

and they are pretty cheap compared to some other companies like max power

chino886. what kind of problems have you had with the bottom end? The bike was still running when I shut it down and checked the oil filter.

I'd say theres more of a chance it being a bottom end problem then jetting.

How far off was the jetting? Even being 15 sizes off wouldn't totally kill ur engine in one weekend.
Wouldn't be good tho lol

Rod bearings completely annihilated!

I would check to be sure. Jetting will cause your bike to run like crap, but not cause metal pieces!

I bought the 480 ATHENA kit on ebay for less than $500, complete with gaskets. It was installed and running in less than 4 hours. Power compared to stock is un-real. I dont think I would go with one of the huge big bores (over 500cc) without making the lower end a little stronger. Just my opinion though.

How right you are!!!! tore down the bike tonight and turned over the piston and looks like something had banging around in there. Got looking and noticed that some of the rod bearings were missing and the rod was loose as hell. OH GREAT. Damn! So tomorrow I order a new crank. Will finish tearing it down tomorrow and let you know what it looks like. The piston was hitting the cylinder walls on the front side.

Be glad you caught it, I did not catch mine in time!

Good luck!

Had the crank next day delivered and received it today. Went to put it in and found out it was the wrong crank. Was too big. Just enough to pixx you off. I will raise a little hell tomorrow at the dealership.

reminds me of a quote:

"some people you cant just tap on the shoulder, you have to hit them in the head with a sledge hammer."

alot of info and smart people on here, they usually know what they are talking about.

I bet you end up with a pretty hot R though.
