I asked my dad about how powdercoating is done, and he said he doesn't really know but thought it had to do with magnetics...well I think he was pulling my leg (or half asleep.. :D ), So how exactly is it done? What is the "powder" made of, and what does it cost? Thanks in advance.

he is pretty close.

the powder flows through a machine to an applicator gun and is charged as it travels down the barrel where it exits and is then attracted to the part and in a nut shell thats it

as far as how its made.....

chemicals, binder agents and color pigments (basically that and a few more things that I cant remember) are mixed and turned into a sort of paint board. its then ground into a powder. when the powder is cured(heated) it flows from the powder to a liquid
