I just installed a wiseco 440 12.5:1 and was wondering if anyone else had this and what gas they were running. I really want to get it broken in so that my backup motor is good to go. Thanks for any help.

I toasted mine withen two weeks. Was told later i proly should have been running race gas. I was running premium with blendzall octane boost. I personally will no go with a 440 big bore again. Your also going to blow head gaskets alot so be prepared. I blew my first gasket within 2 hours of riding. Got it fixed and blew the whole thing up the next ride.:ermm:

There's more that goes into the minimum required octane rating required by an engine then the static compression spec of the piston. The camshaft used, gaskets, jetting preferences, elevation, weather, and more all make an impact.

However, I'd expect most 12.5:1 piston'd 400EX builds are going to need at least 100 MON. Many might experience deto with anything less than 105 MON. Pump gas is a death sentence for 12.5:1 on a 400EX.

My specs are in my sig, my 440 has a JE 11:1 piston and it pings on 93 octane so I run half 93 and half 112.Iam in NJ also so elevation will not matter. I think it has a 170 or a 175 main in it.My quad has been togeather for 4 years and I have had NO head gasket problems. Use a stock type multi layer head gasket.

Thanks guys, I really didn't want to have to drive all the way to my parents house to get my dads compression tester just to break in this motor and miss what daylight I had left.

Just run VP-C12 you'll be fine. That's what I do.

i ran the multilayer gaskets as well, but i wish the HD head studs were avaliable when i had my ex. those 440s can hold together, and if you do have a gasket problem, i would definately reccomend getting the studs
