Hey Guys,my 400's smoked ever since it was new.......(i never asked before,cause i always forget to ask)...

When I first start it up it don't really smoke at all.but once its warmed up and all,and i rev it up and all,she smokes like a 4ft Graphix..........

and everytime after a Hard Ride i have tom put soem oil in her (say its full,well after a hard ride or race,its right above the bottom of the stick,at least a 1/4 + from the bottom)

Now I still have great power,I mean I can beat my buddies newer 01 EX(by 3-5mph) with the same pipe and jets(he has a UNI filter though)

And also,when i am doin donuts and all,i can smell the oil burning....(threw the pipe fumes)

So what do you think it it guys?Valve Guide seals?Rings ? I am tried of throwing oil in it after every ride (hey,its a self-changer)lol

Also,my other friend with a 99 EX just got his rings and valve guides replaced,and his smokes too....but mine smokes like a train,and is the fastest piped 400ex in my town,so wtf????

re-ring and valve seal it. burning oil isn't cool when it's so expensive and your burning oil. your friend may have had his rings installed up side down which i have been told will cause it to smoke.

you need new rings on your piston it depends how bad it is it may need a new cylinder wall.

Anyways,IF the cyl wall is shot,i'll just send her to Terry,and gets me a 416 kit with porting and a Hot Cam, or should I gte a 426,so I cna run a 16th? But i need a Job 1st,it's all about the cash flow...

I think you should get a 406, no cam, and put the stock exhaust back on, with a 12th front sproket, you'll do just fine for the next race. LOL

That exhuast might been too much flow and could be burning up your valves :eek:

I'd say valve stem seals, with rings smoking that bad there'd be a real loss of power. it is oil smoke right?

I'd say valve seals, usually when the rings go bad they smoke when cold, and as the motor warms up the rings expand and seal better, causing it not to smoke as heavily. Yours is totally backwards where it doesnt smoke until warm...

heck boys my 300 smokes like anything....never used a drop of oil since april...bought it new has smoked from mile one.....i dont get it....but its the best runnin 300 i have ever rode....

****, i barely rode mine hard the first year, season after it i noticed on cold starts it would puff......runs strong , i think they just do sometimes i dunno y
