im lookin to buy a 250r im new to 2-strokes so i dont really kno much about them but id like to find one with the headlight in the plastic (88-89) i think.. but which motor was the strongest an most reliable an what about the suspension an which parts would be the easiest to find..thanks

88-89 Yes.

87-89 motors are all pretty much the same, 86's were different and not as sturdy strong.

Check the frame for cracks and ride it.

Ridin a 2-stroke is a whole lot different then ridin a 4 joke. They SNAP like you wouldn't believe.

88-89 were the best 2 years, almost all the after market parts are based off those years. If you need parts call KOQ racing in MI. they can fix you up.

my 86 motor is pretty damn reliable;) i believe the only real big difference besides the 87-89's having a long rod is the front motor mounts.

yeah my 86 has not had one problem. The 86 did have 2nd gear problems but that was all i think. And the 89 clutch was superior.

big thing us 86 guys should do is get the 89 clutch update kit for our quads. big improvement in reliablity

garret, ive noticed no problems with my 2nd gear. what was wrong with yours?

And the ports in the 86 had no crossing in them to make it stronger, the 87-89 do.

I have not had any trouble. But it is one of the things that always pops up when you talk about an 86. I dont personally think that there is but alot of people think so. Sorry for the confusion
