Whenever i'm riden my R at places with a bunch of people, such as the dunes, or the river bed. The thing that i like to do mostly is drag race....the bad thing is, is that everyone usually beats me with their 450's and whatnot .... I could care less if a banshee beats me, they're just flat out fast.

Now what i cant decide is to put a lot of money in my R and posibly make it faster than anything else, or to get somethin like a YFZ450 or somethin....
As far as money wise, what would be the best thing to do?

lol... i'll refrain from commenting on the typing of the previous post....

go look at my book of a post on like page 5 of the trx vs atc section...

it depends on what you value... there isnt a right or wrong answer, its the cost vs the reward...

I know exactly how you felt, I loved my R so I just souped up the engine. I'd rather spend $1k on engine than get another bike and spent another $1k on mods alone.

If you really want to be the king in the sand, get an ESR 370 on alky and say buh-bye to everyone! (well almost lol)...From what i've seen around here on modded 4strokes, they start to lose reliability when you put big cams and high compression to them. Not saying its impossible, but I'd stick to a 2stroke.

Moster horsepower = 350 top end, +5 stroke, alky setup, alky head, ignition, drag porting. Not too much could hang with you then!!

anther thing to consider is gearing, i see you have a 11 front? thats too small, get a 13 tooth and see how it runs then..anything past a full ported 310, 95% of 450s cant keep up

Well last time I raced 450's I was racin fully drag bikes, +6'' swingers, paddles, God knows wuts done to the engines, and I was only 2 bike lenghts behind them, Me a 250r with a couple things like reeds and a pipe, quad that can do it all, trails, jumps, whoops, Ft, Mx, drag, dunes...................they can only go straight and they only had 2 bike lengths on me.

And I betcha that if I had paddles, I coulda won!!!!!!!!!!!!:blah:

Tell them to EAT IT!

Hahaha.

Stick with the 250r, so much cheaper then buyin a new one then moddin it out and have 12,000g's in it by the time your done, vs. spend the cash on a new jug, head, and jets.

Man the 250r's will always own.

IMO 11 front is good for me cause when i race, even with the 11 i still only get to about 5th gear before we stop racin. i can start out in 2nd gear with it... now if i had a big bore engine,, ya i'm sure i'd jump back up to 13 or so.

you sure youre running an 11 tooth sprocket? i have never head of anybody doing that, and i dont even know where you would buy an 11 tooth sprocket from...

if so you should be able to launch in 3rd i would imagine...

i still have a hard time beleiving youre actually running an 11 tooth? what is your rear sprocket?

I'm sure its 11tooth ... i got it a few weeks ago from sprocket specialist ... and my rear sprocket is stock

i agree with the posts regarding your gearing.

a well matched lil 250 will pull 13 or 14 easy and thats launching in 2nd gear.

i've got my setup matched about as well as it can be from the silencer to the airbox and can launch 2nd all day long. even on pavement and i run a 14/37 with 20" tires regardless of the terrain. it has about as much torque as can be gotten from a 2 stroke of its caliber.

personally i think you should tweek on what you have currently and strongly consider running a higher gear.

btw..... what porting is done to your cylinder and by whom?

i've got a 13 tooth sprocket also, i could never start out in 2nd with that.:ermm:

I think i need to say screwit and fork out the money and get a 370 or somethin like that...

Also, would it hurt me in drag racin if I got a powervalve engne?

if you arent able to launch in 2nd with a 13 tooth then something isnt right.

a p/v is pointless in drag racing.

well now that i think about it, my jetting was way off back when i had that 13 on... maybe that was why i had to start in 1st

if your going to get a 370, might as well get a 500 from saber racing......

if you were running way rich that could have happened... i cant imagine running an 11 tooth sprocket thought and not being wound out pretty quick... at the dunes, we dont start too far from the whoops, and i launch in 2nd, and 5 yards later while the tires are still spinning im in 3rd, and i like to be in 4th before i even get to the whoops

a saber kit might seem only a little more, but thats only for the "kit"...not involving the engine teardown and beefing up for the 500cc top end. By the time you're through with a saber, you'll have spent a new quad on the motor alone.

I've heard a fully ported/drag setup 370 on methanol can make 75+ hp if tuned correctly. not bad IMO

nobody has ever heard of somebody running an 11 tooth sprocket on the 250r...

and there may be some hostility towards me for my pro-yfz posts here recently :D

I have a 265 national motor built for mid to top end power and I have been outrunning 450s at the local sand spot. I had it dynoed and it puts out 48.5 horse on pump gas, and if I put in my race dome in the cylinder it turns 53 hp on110 octane.

By the time you get a Pro-X 370 to make 75 hp you'll have a ticking time bomb on your hands that will barely make it past a weekend of drag racing.

The Sabertooth motor does not require you to 'Beef Up' anything...you just need to start with parts that are in good condition.

Try to remember that our goal is to achieve a balance of RELIABILITY with HP! How about 105hp and 2 years on the same piston? That's what a Sabertoth gives you. :)

2 years?? thats sweet. I am having my zilla redone by Dr Q and Im thinking after I gets used to trial riding that I might need a 500 for my MX ride too :macho
