im thinking about getting 400ex arms and shocks if i dont build that project: CR250 quad. i know that 400ex shocks are longer than the 250r hocks so i would get more wheel travel with the 400 shocks and lowering kit than with a set of 250r shocks right? thank for any help! later...

I second that and also dont get a lowering thats $hit. your better get a-arms and smaller shocks like alky on his TT 450.

im not talking about running TT....thy 250r shocks and 400ex shocks are the same length? i was told that if i got 400ex arms and 250r shocks i wouldnt have to get that kit to move the shock mounts up? oh well i trust what yall are saying. i guess ill go ahead and get the 400ex shocks and arms and the kit from whats his name on here and put the stock stuff back on when i sell it. but which have more travel on them?

250r and 400ex shocks are the same length and same travel. If you put 400ex arms on your 300 you can use 400 or 250r shocks. makes no difference but you will need a raised mount for the top of the shock.

all you guys are wrong... i have a 400ex shock and a 250r shock laying in the basement both stock and both with the preload set in the middle.......400's are longer...duh ...think about it a little...400 and 250r frames are closely built almost identical a arms are interchangeable....but the 250r sits lower...compare the specs 250r's dont have as much travel..thats why they corner better...lower to the ground..now aftermarket shocks...ye thats different

here ya go. the 250r is like .25 inch shorter.
the best set up for a 300ex is
250r 86-87 a arms
with 400ex shocks
the shock mounts need to be moded

The reason 250r is better is because they are the same width ware they mount to the frame. and the 86-87's don't move the up 1. Witch is better for a 300ex because it moves the center of weight back or something.

What year are those 250r shocks or are all 250r shocks the same lenght?

well i dont know if your preload is set different on your shocks or i dunno but my 250r shocks are a good 1/2 inch shorter...cuz on my 95 300ex i simply bolted on 400ex a arms and compressed the 250r shocks maybe 3/8 inch and used em with the stock mounts...there no way i could do this with the 400 shocks

when you play with the preload the whole shock doesnt compress only the spring. if im wrong please correct me but i dont think the whole shock compresses. also forum, i dont understand what you said about the arms? or was it the shocks? thanks alot for all your help yall!! later...

If you use 400ex a-arms, you have to either use 400 shocks and a mounting bracket kit, or you can use 250r dualrate shocks from works and they will mount up fine with stock moutning points on a 300.

i thought it was just my X but in every pic i see of a 300 or a 250 the plastic is always pushed over to one side most of the time it is to the left? anyone seen a pic where its not? i think what im gonna do is go ahead and get the 250r tripple rate shocks and get the re locating kit and then when i get the stuff to start that CR project (i think im gonna get a 250r chassis and guesset it and put a ballanced CR250r motor in it) i can put the stock stuff back on it and keep the shocks and arms and thet will be on more thing i dont have to buy. thanks yall! later...

Live2Ride300

around an inch and a half, or just an inch, arount there, and i think it will make it a lil longer, i had it next to my friends stock bike and it was like an inch longer.

Kicken 250X, that project sounds sweet, so your building a 250R? but wiht a cr engine?
