z400 clutch issue

i have a 2003 z400 just had to put a whole new bottom end on it because of a crank tranny screw up.... any ways when i hold the clutch in and shift it into gear it grabs and tries to go right as i shift inot gear but then its normal. i thought i didnt have it adjusted right but i tightened the cable to where the clutch was almost completely released before it wouldstart moving any thoughts? oil?

sounds to me like a worn clutch basket. the plates are sticking in the grooves causing the bike to lurch forward when put in gear even with the clutch pulled in.

are you sure thats the problem? and can continuing to ride it like this hurt anything? i mena i had a blaster and a dirtbike that did this and i rode them for years but i didnt havenear as much money in those as i do this
