i just ordered a 11:1 416 kit
what drop-in aftermarket cam uses stock springs, rockers and decompression. looking at the tc, does tc retain the decompression?

no porting or valve work
wb eseries pro meg
k&n.....
choke removed

i just called sparks and they told me there $159 cam is similar to the xr cam.

they said it was a 3 on a sclae from 1 -10 and the aggressive is a 6. the agressive is $380. ouch

i can get a xr cam with a decomp for 125. should i just get the xr cam. i was looking for something a little more like a 5. will the xr cam be nice. will it give it a hit at all?

i was gonna go the hot cam route but with all the problems ive heard i dont want to now

I don't think any aftermarket cam can use the decompression. Look into an XR, or HRC cam.

how much is the hrc cam

the web has a core charge and they suggest hard faced ockers.

what about the tc?

Don't worry about the decompression, it will start just fine without it. :D

I use an XR cam. I like it lust fine BUT it is mild. I have it on my 440 and I can notice some difference but not a real big one like I had hoped. Just look at it this way, If honda makes it, than I would just drop it in. If I bought one from somewhere else than I would get the rocker arms. Just my opinion

We have two bikes, set up very similar. 416 kits, 10.8 to 1 compression, full race pipes, one Sparks x6 the other DR Fatboy 4, and so on. The only difference is one has a Hot Cams stage 2 and the other a xr cam. There is a major difference between the xr and the hotcam. We found the bike with the hot cam has a more radical power curve, and with an fcr 39 carb, we have never had a problem starting it up. It really all depends on how agrresive a cam you are lookin for. With any of the more aggresive it is wise to hardface your rockers and get a sparks or other heavy duty cam chain.

the tc has the decomp, but how much more is it than the xr?

so your saying that the bike with the wild cam is better or worse do to the hit? does the bike with the xr cam not run good or is it just smoother and less "pipey" if i can say it that way

im coming from a 99yz250 so i understand the radical powercurve.

i just dont want to lose my low end in place for the top.

will the xr cam and the 416 be a noticable diff over the 400. if yes than i have made my desicion.

The one with the hot cam is a little more "peppy" per say, it is noticable, but so slight between these two cams that either is a good choice. The nice thing about the xr cam is that it is a Hond part. This means hte reliability factor is still there. Off the line the Hotcam does pull harder, yet throught hte middle the xr seems to pull a little more, top end seems to be a toss up, which may be due to the different pipes.
