View Full Version : 300ex ticking noises ???

im not completly sure but when i went to start up my quad i could hear a ticking noise in my head of the engine i think it is my valvs or my cam chain but i read some threads that were similiar but im not sure could some one help me out ?

start with what is free and never hurts(when done right)- Adjust the valves to .004 intake and exhaust. Also check the cam sprocket bolts and every other nut and bolt possible

Next get a new cam chain tensioner, Then take off the head cover, clutch cover, clutch, oil pump, cam sprocket...and then swap out the old chain with a new. ;)

Mine was ticking very loud and it was the cam sprocket bolts hitting the head :eek2:

Didn't hurt anything though.

im gonna check it out today and see if i take of my head i wil need to replace the gasket right

nope. The vavle cover uses high temp RVT sealant.

also, if you have a high comp piston, it will tick pretty bad.

A high comp. piston shouldn't make it tick.

well mine did, and so did everyone elses that i know. Its not like a cam tick its a different tick. Lets just say it makes a different noise than than the stock piston....lol

That's true, it does make a different noise.
