i actually have never used the rear brake while wheelieing, maybe my reaction speed is to slow because i am sometimes lazy:o

good i thought that people were going to give me a hard time for saying that. j smith ive tried that on my 200x but it hurts to much on the back of my knee. i took off my rear brake because when i jumped and bottomout my cal. hit my pipe. plus it didnt work when i bought it. im going to get it rebuilt this summer.

I never use the rear brake, you cant shift with your foot on the brake.

But when you get into 5th gear its kinda scary knowing you cant hit the brake if you go to far back.

I wish I would have gotten some pics of me doing my thing before I killed my 250x but it kinda happened out of the blue.

that video didnt work. hey jokster i know that it is easy to do a wheelie i said that on my first post. what do you mean by you killed your 250X? what is a 250X is it a 4 stroke or 2 stroke?

I broke the counter shaft in the motor and I was tired of fixing it all the time so I parted it out.

Its a 4 stroke. honda 250x made from 87-92. Its exactly the same as the 300ex but its a kickstart and smaller stroke making it 250cc.

not using the rear brake is simple, all about throttle control. here's one from when i had my yfz.......no rear brake up there..

why did you sell it?

jd450
04-01-2007, 02:08 PM
good question!!!! i regret selling it SOOO fck'n bad! but......i sold it b/c the plan was to finish paying it off then get a streetbike. well, just after paying it off my truck blew its headgaskets ($2,400!!!!!!!!) so that kinda put a halt to getting a bike. now, i took out a loan for 1K (i used tax returns to cover the rest of the work on the truck) and i've only made one payment so i still owe around $900. im going to the bank this week to see if they will let me extend that loan and i'll get a used R6 or F4i. if not, then i'll have to wait a couple more months until i pay it off.

trust me, i miss that damn quad alot!!!! i should have never sold it.

JD---just wanted to say thats a crazy pic man...i printed it off and showed a budy a while back (we were talkin about different things to try) and he's real close to getting it. but i must say...nice job.

the only time i use my brakes is if im about to put it back on the grab bar...and since my pipe extends about 2-2 1/2 inches past the bar i really dont wanna slam it on the ground. otherwise no...throttle is the way to go.

csr250r

i never use the rear brake unless i feel the grabbar hit hard and it start to get swirly. most the time letting off is enough:D .

no rear brake is pretty easy once u get the balance thing down.

ATC_KING

yeah but if the front starts to go down and you only have 200cc to pull it back up it can be hard.

u don't have to ride the rear brake u just have to find ur balancing point and u have to have good throtle control, i have only used my rear brake when i popped the clutch in 2nd gear and it came up fast and hit the grap bar that when i hit the brake

Kaleigh
07-24-2007, 12:53 PM
if you turn your idle down and keep your revs high then engine braking will bring the front end back down if you past the balance point.. also its easier to wheelie with an ATC..

I have the hardest time learning to wheelie on my shee. With so much tire spin, it's hard as a mofo to even get the front end up. I wish i had some asphalt to practice on.

As for my dirtbike, i dont have the balls to try to wheelie that. No grab bar to save me.

I dont get it, so basically you think that if i use my rear brake to wheelie im not as good as someone that does? if your foot is hovering the rear brake what the hell does it matter if i use it. using your rear brake does make it easier but i don't even use it that ofter but i do use it. love to see you guys on a motorcycle and claim you dont use it. there is no grab bar going to save you at 60+ mph.

i use my back brake sometimes usually when i'm trying to ride a wheelie as slow as possible. but ya i could ride a wheelie for miles without the back brake. sometimes i think it's harder to have the coordination to use the gas, clutch, gears, and back brake all at the same time. lol ive been trying new wheelies i'll try to get some pics up

My back brakes got ripped completly off last year. During the summer, i struggled with wheelies the first week or so, finally i had it. I can do perfect slow wheelies and i can somtimes balence it in one place, its tons harder then it would be if i had a back brake but it can be done with TONS of practice. So yeah, for a year i've been riding, and stunting without brakes. Makes it alot more interesting though.

I can ride 120 feet with out using brakes sitting down on the seat on my 87 250x. I have only been riding sport quads a short time and just recently started practicing wheelies. I have only practiced 5 times so I am hoping to hit 150 to 200 by this weekend (no brake) which will max me out in my yard. Guess I will have to start practicing in the road (dead end with no traffic). I hope to have a video shortly.

Coming from a guy that has been in 3 streetbike wrecks..... Ive flopped 2 wheelies and was ran off the rd at 110.... That rear brake is an ***-SAVER....!! Wheelies are a blast, and a skill, but just beacuse u use ur back brake doesnt make u any less of a "wheelier"...... Being able to CONTROL a wheelie is what its all about... holding the balance point and staying at a constant rate of speed and not accelerating the whole time makes a good wheelie... Lets face it, ANYONE can pop a wheelie... My girl can hold a wheelie for about 50ft on her 400ex and shes rode it about 10hrs total, hell I taught her to wheelie a 250ex in 10 mins... The back brake is a crucial part or contol... Why do u think that stunriders use a rear handbrake??? #1- saftey #2- contol, half of the stunts that the pros do wouldnt be possible without that brake.... If you can hold a wheelie with or "without" the rear brake good for you.... But lemme tell ya, flippin back at 80mph on a 929 with no gear but a helmet will definately ruin your day... Doin 50 on a quad a floppin it is gonna hurt just as bad..... So. in my eyes coverin that rear brake is definately a smart idea. :D

this is the way i learned to wheelie! I can do it for at least 4 miles but if Dirt Wheels magazine is correct...the world record on an atv is 2.8 miles and it took the guy over half an hour doing it in circles on a baseball field.

trial and error. the trick is to go over the handlebars a couple of times. on your way to a crash you'll see where the balance point is thats how i did it. but i've now learnt from experience that its easier on the bike and the body to practice with your feet over the handlebars. its easier to bail this way. man I love bailing!!!

using the rear brake is crucial. right now i dont use it as much as i should but there is also huge chuncks of yawn missing from where the grab bar digs in. it is a difficult skill to learn but it make you that much better at wheeling

man those pics are sweet. i dont get how the hell to find this balance point yet. i tried today to ride one and i smacked the grab bar and my new fn pipe on the grass and loosened the pipe. almost want to put the stock on till i learn how to do em...

but can u guys give some pointers? ill be in second and just gun it and i can pop it up np and ride it briefly but i know im not hitting the balance point, im pretty much trying to chase it from falling back down lol. i tried the whole brake deal but i think its too low, as soon as my bar hit i tried hittin the brake but no go lol. idk if im just retarded or what. i can do 2 wheels on the side balanced no problem (in circles, cant get straight down pat yet) so figured id try givin wheelies a shot..what was the methods that u all used to learn wheelies? do u guys clutch it or what? thanks. im starting with one foot on the grab bar and other on peg wit rear brake...

try try try again. you'll learn to feel the right spot. if you can try in a higher gear then it won't come up as fast. And to get your bicycle to go straight you need to lean farther over. good luck
