I have an 89 frame and the motor that i got has an extra, unused mount hole. I have seen that there is different mounts for the earlier years which makes me think that its an 86,87 motor. The question, is there a clear way to differentiate between motor years?
Thanks alot

Post the serial number of the motor and we can tell you, it's stamped on the side case.

I didn't make the connection at first when you asked me about the parts but I guarantee that is an 89 motor. There are suptle differences in all years 250Rs and I know what they all are and that was an 89 frame and 89 motor.

The 88/89 frames did have a mount on the motor that wasn't used. It was the lower one right in front of the linkage mount. Another way to tell, the cases on the 88/89 were black, not the gun metal grey of the earlier years, and if you take the clutch apart there was a flat roller bearing clutch set up in it. That should get you in the ball park of what year it is.
