performance cams ... drz-e base gasget+ performance piston, jetting. ehaust. air intake you could make it a stroker but jsut be careful to keep the compression low enough for pump gas on my bike i have an lrd full exhaust k&n airfilter jetted 12.5 weisco piston drz-e base gasget hot cam intake cam. stiff valve springs and procom cdi box but im a weekend mudder i dont race

ok now will all those mods take the reliability down?

well yes in a way... personally if this quad is just for fun id pipe and jet put on an airfilter an aftermarket piston and the base gasget. id stay away from cams and valve upgrades if you are looking for reliability. if you have the money get your head ported and polished professionally

ok so cams and valves are not good for reliabilty cuz i was looking at a bolt in cam and over sized valves from web cams would it ok to put in for playing around cuz i ride almost everyday and i need to have somthing that will last.

ok sorry for all the questions but like i said before i ride almost everyday not really really hard but everyday about and i was wondering which would be a more reliable motor that can stand up to my abuse out a z400 or a 450r.

reliabilty id go with the z400 performance 450 honestly i have z400 and a yamaha 450 and ia crappy old 250 dirt bike i have more fgun on the z and the dirtbike i only have the 450 so i can beat my buddies whenever i want to go with the z400 do build it up ridiculusly jsut do minor little mods to make it nice and that should be good enough... if it gets boring yo ucan always build it more

ok cuz it is going in a 450r frame i would like to try and find a motor that has to be rebuilt cuz i am doing this build on a budget so a motor that has to be rebuilt would help keep the price down and it would give me the chance to put hotter parts in it what do you think would be some good parts to go a head and throw in it to really open it up cuz i am trying to make a sleeper out it but i dont have the cash to rebuild every 4 runs.

So you want to put a Z400 engine in a 450R frame?

mach1stang

yes because a 450r frame has better suspension uprades.

well if you are gonna use a 450 frame, save yourself a bunch of trouble and get yoruself a 450 motor i jsut sold my old z400 engine on ebay it needed rebuilt it would have been perfect. if you are wanting to drag .. thats what it sounded like... go to tractor supple co.. pick out some nice 23 inch tractor tires with a good argessive hook up tread. this will prop up your back end and also add an extended swing arm and or extend the frame. i built one about a year ago from a wrecked raptor and its a whicked ride.

no this one is not for draggin this is my everyday player i am just wanting a motor that can be ran everyday and will start every time i tell it to.

hey guys also could you give me a estimate on how far over the stock bore and all before losing reliability because i am looking at a athena big bore kit.

i have ben checking that out i think a 416 is best 440 if you are gonig to stroke it you need to keep the porportion of bore size to stroke size if you plan on this get a bigger carb too

reliability is alot in how you build it, how you maintain oil changes, warms ups and abuse. mine has been rebuilt twice but i ride hard every weekend and i make her work hard. but i have had mine since 03 and that year i raced it.... thats when i learned alot abotu waht not to do

yeah well if it depends on how hard you run it i am toast cuz i run my stuff hard pretty much every day but not for a really long time i am out riding maybe 45 minutes to a hour and possibly a hour and a half, but athena has a 434 kit with a new cylinder and piston and a bunch of stuff which would be perfect for me because i could buy a blown motor or just a bottom half and bolt the athena kit on, but would somthing like that need better valves and a diffrent cam and stuff like that?

kfx400isdashiz
03-28-2007, 08:28 PM
i would run it with better valves and springs but theorectically you dont have to i would

mach1stang

so you can throw that kit and thats it no race gas i know they say you need to run a better pipe but really thats it?

the type of gas has to do with compression not bore size look up soem forums in the powertrain section they should help
