i recently purchased a 89 250r and love it. however with it being kind of old i knew going into it that there would bound to be something wrong with it. so far it has only been small things. i have heard many stories about stock axle lock nuts failing so i went and bought a RAD LOC to replace it. i would like to get the lonestar one but i dont have that much money. i went to install the rad loc yesterday and i am only getting like 1/8th of an inch of thread inside the rad loc so i called them and they said that there is something wrong with the axle carrier itself. he said that it is possible that somethin got crushed inside causing there to be more axle on the brae side and less on the sprocket side. he said that this is the opposite of what it should be. also what exactly does twin row bearings mean? is there 2 on each side. the guy said i may have to buy a new carrier. if i do what would be the best to go with. i have a lonstar right now (i believe) but the tech guy i talked to said that there have been many failures of these latley. im pretty confused on this so any help would be appreciated.

I had a durablue locknut and not had that problems. I got a dumb question, are you sure you have a 250r axle?? If you have a 400ex in there, this would make sense. 250r and 400ex axles are nearly exact in looks, the differences are the hubs are a different spline, hubs are offset, Axle is ~2" narrower and the axle nut clip is alot closer to the brake hub. Post a pic of your rear ends and the hubs, we can tell you if you have a 400ex axle or not.

You have a 400EX axle. I encountered the same issues last year. You needed the threaded sleeve for a 400EX locknut.

There are two ways to use a 400EX axle on a 250R.

To keep the 250R rear brake setup:
Use an OEM 250R rotor hub with an OEM 400EX or aftermarket locknut and the threaded sleeve for 400EX locknut.
400EX rear wheel hubs

To use an antifade:
400EX antifade
400EX rear caliper stay
400EX rear caliper
400EX rear rotor (it is physically larger in diameter than a 250R rotor)
Longer rear brake line
400EX rear wheel hubs

so if its a 400ex axle then most everything in the rear is 400ex parts right? so then i would have to go out and buy all 250r parts to convert it back?

No, you will only need to change everything to 400EX parts if you want to use an antifade. If you use an OEM 400EX locknut or an aftermarket locknut you can keep the 250R rear brake setup. There is no way around using 400EX wheel hubs because 250R and 400EX axles have different splines for the wheel hubs.
