I just wrapped my exhaust header and it looks pretty sweet.

I was wondering if anyone done this before? It definitely looks good, but not sure how long it will last. I wrapped it in the 1 inch black from Advanced Auto.

I doubt it will add any performance, but it'll keep me from burning my hand on the header when I check the oil. :D

I'll post pics tomorrow when I get it all installed.

Don't forget to post pics! I thought of doing this myself. I 'm curious if the wrap will keep the oil temp down at low speed!

Theoretically they can add power, they hold more heat in which helps scavenge the exhaust faster out of the head, I however am not a fan as they hold moisture and will cause your exhaust to rot away:o

I was worried about the same thing...

I wire wheeled the whole header and exhaust to take any corrosion off them, I then wiped them with alcohol to remove any oil from my hands. Then I painted 3 coats of the 1200 degree high temp paint to protect it from the moisture. This should keep it from corroding. After wrapping it I sprayed like 7 coats of the high temp silicone protestant that is made for it. This will keep the moisture out and make it easier to clean.

If you wrap it tight enough you do not need a strap on the beginning of your wrap, just the ends. They are stainless steel straps made for this wrap with a tensile strength of 100 lbs so they should definitely hold.

You have to wet the wrap b4 putting it on so it's easier to work with. After I wrapped the header I reinstalled it and let the quad idle for like 15 minutes to heat it up and thoroughly dry the wrap.

I'm going outside to install it all now and I'll post pics. Then I'm going riding, so I'll tell you how well it cleans up after words.

btw... This only cost me around $50 in the end and an hour or two of time.

Here's the finished product.

I'm very happy with how it cam out. I took it riding in hopes of getting it dirty to see how well it cleans off. But, it was 60 4 days ago and not it's 20 out so everything is froze. I was using 6ft snow drifts as jumps, lol. I'll let you know how well it cleans after it warms up a bit.

Next is to paint the engine black with some silver parts for highlights. I'm going to keep the ends of the fins bare so it make a nice contrast with the black engine.

Let me know what you think.

it looks good but if you have a heat shield why did you wrap it?

Well, because I won't burn my hand when checking my oil anymore, and I wanted to see what it looks like with the shield on. I took it off after the pics because I could grab the header after 30 min of riding w/out burning myself. Ooh yeah, and it looks cool, lol.
