engines misses and dies electrical? mud??

ran through a great deal of mud yesterday and my engine sputtered and stalled, I was towed 4 miles back. The battery cranked strong, lights were good. Air filter was clean and dry topped off with new gas. What electrical component would cause engine stalling. I don't think this is an air fuel issue. We did cross small streams and thick mud covering everything. I run with airbox lid on at all times.

Any input/help is appreciated.

i would just start checking all the connections. make sure they are all clean and tight
