that is what happens when you bore a machine you will be rebuilding it in a couple of months you should have just left it stock.

^
When built right big bore 400ex motors are very reliable.

To answer the original question there are two copper crush gaskets (one for each pipe) that are inbetween your headpipe and your exhaust ports. Sometimes when you take off your head pipe and put them back on they don't seal correctly. I had the same problem a couple of times. You might want to try either re-tightening your head pipe of buying new gaskets. They are pretty cheap around $5 if I remember correctly.

I hear that time and time again but, I always read about 440 problems. I wouldn't ruin my engine doing it.

Not everyone can take care of a motor.

I'm willing to bet that a stock 400 engine would outlast a 440 modded engine if maintained and riden identically. Most everyone that would argue otherwise would mostly likely have already modded their motors and would just be defending thier decision to do so.

Additionally, why did you call someone else an "Idiot" when their opinion differs from yours.

Because it was ignorant.

I think that the reason there are alot of 440 problems are because a lot of people that do 440 builds skimp out on buying the other parts they need to keep it reliable. 440 "kits" come with gaskets, sleeve's, and pistons and usually cost around $200-$250. But they don't come with oversize oil tanks $120, HD studs which are around $120 if they are installed at a machine shop, HD cam chains $27, or accurately Torqued bolts on the head PRICELESS :D. People don't think they need those things to keep it reliable. Some times you don't need those parts and it will run with no problems but it seems that more commonly you do, IMO they should be installed on all motors that have modified internals.
