400ex front sprocket

Quick question, I broke my teeth off my old sprocket and Im gonna put the new one on today but does the flat side go against the motor, or the side that says JT on it with the ridge and sprocket numbers? Also do I have to have that clip that goes on the end of the motor shaft thing that holds the sprocket on thanks!

I thought 400ex ones you could run either direction

as far as the clip goes, if you dont have that on, how will the sprocket stay on? It will come right off...
