my friend gave me his oldsmobile (1980 somethin model) cause it broke down and he bought a mazda 626 for $400. well it turns over but doesnt start. his dad said it needs either a new coil pack or control module, only costing about $100 to fix but hes not sure what it is so do you guys have any ideas what it could be?

It could be a coil, that would be the first thing I would check. Also all the spark plug wires.

I had a problem with my buick that caused it to have no spark one day and it was a crank sensor.

at least on my buick its a pain in the arse if you do not have a lift. Between the firewall and engine block:mad:

could be the distributor, pick up coil, coil, ignition module, or a number of things.

my money is on the ignition module.

I had a civic that had starting issues. It was the battery, the car would only start on a fully charged battery. If you didn't start it for a week you would have to recharge the battery to get it to start again.

Module? If it's an earlier 80's olds, not much to it, if it's later model year, more computer controlled BS on it then. What engine does it have? Do you know the model of car?

oldsmobile (1980 somethin model)

could be a little bit more specific. back in the 80's there werent too many censors, so dont get to worked up. id say the distributor or something in it. remember it probobly doesnt have any "coil packs", not sure though, we dont know much about the car.
