I bought a 2005 450R in pretty good shape. And I have about 4 miles on it. I just found a rear rim egg shapped on the inside..... So I pulled the tires to see how bad the axle was, and it is out of round by about 1/4 to 3/8's of a inch....

I think I need a new axle......

Question #1...... What is a good rear axle that is the same width as the stock axle? brands even part numbers would be great....

Question #2....... When you change the axle, do the bearing in the carrier stay? anyone have a write up?

I do a lot of trail riding, not much MX and I am 200 pounds....

Thanks!:macho

A good axle that has a lifetime warranty is Lonestar. RPM is also another good axle. Both can be found for around $350 with RPM's new prices. Lonestar and RPM have a XC axle that is from -2 to +1, that would keep you at stock width.

The bearings will stay in the carrier, however I would check them out to see if new ones are needed or not.

they sell the geforce for 200$. I beat the hell out of mine, and have yet to bend/brake mine. I do have mine set to the widest setting though. I live being out at 50 inches for stability.

OK,
I should prabably spend the extra 50 dollars and get the x country lonestar... But the 1.5 to 3.5 is 50 bucks cheaper. is the 1.5 wider noticable.. its only 3/4 on each side right?

Durablue is ok if you are mild mannered recreational rider, but if you race or are hard on equipment, get the RPM. check out the test on their website. it is the strongest axle by far.

MY XC lonestar came in today... What a nice axle! All I have to do is pull the skid off and put the rear brake on and the new alum skid and the axle is in... That was pretty simple! but expensive:(
