Robbs Racing Engines, well known for their work in the mini quad world, has agreed to back Cody for the remainder of 2007 in the GNCC Series and just about anything else we decide to race!

A post on this website led to the deal and as of today, the wheels are in motion to build an all out race TRX90 from the ground up, starting with a 2007 Honda TRX90 that was offered up by Ridersville Cycle(another long term sponsor of Cody)

Robbs Racing will be building a 125cc engine using the stock powerplant as a starting point, and their dual arm set up combined with their swing arm and exhaust to promote a full line of what they offer to the world of XC Mini racing.

C&D Racing is already onboard and is gathering other needed items to make this project complete. They will also be handling the new Stadium suspension that will be installed on this build, along with a set of FastFlexx bars and a Noss dampner for better steering control.

Rath racing's Pro peg nerfs and a Rath bumper will round out the major modifications list.

A full build thread will be posted and updated in the TRX90 section of this site.

That's great. I'm really glad these youth racers are getting full rides.

The plan is to run it at Big Buck, I dont think there is a way to finish it before Steel Creek.

Removale of everything starts with the fenders, and the many many bolts that secure it:p

Rath racings nerf dont need any welding i believe. ill check ours tomarrow to make sure. Our hetrick quad runs Robbs parts, front end and swinger. Hands down the best.

Frame is gusseted now in a few areas we have had trouble with in the past, but with running a new chassis with way more suspension then it was designed for, I figured I wouldnt go overboard. I will try and keep a tight grip on Cody jumping this one so hopefully the frame will stay together.

LOL...... Pappy your kidding right????? Keep a reign on Cody jumping.. I've seen your pics of him jumping, you probably have to tie lead weights on that boys feet when he walks around to keep him on the ground....... Anyway have fun and bring him to some of the Mx nationals so me and Kyle can see it up close and personal like...

That will make my life a bit easier if they have changed designs:p

mcatvme
03-14-2007, 01:43 PM
they did change. just make sure you put them on before you put the motor in. You might have to grind one of the bolt heads down also. they get REALLY close to the engine case.

Pappy
03-14-2007, 01:46 PM
thanks, I will check that bolt!

also, what rear brake lever are you using(foot pedal?) I modded our stock one on our last 90 but havent checked if someone has a set up on the market etc

mcatvme
03-14-2007, 02:10 PM
Youll have to contact Rich at Hetrick racing for that pedal. I dont know where he gets them from.

i can't give you a place to get it either but i know that is the exact same pedal we just put on the trx we're building for my cousin o and a quick question what kind of suspension are you going to be runnin

Robb is shipping the arms and swing arm out today. I just finished bobbing the frame and making the mounts for a removable wide XC style grab bar(sure helps when little hands or even adults have something to grab ahold of in a mudhole or on a slick hill)

I also fabricated everything for the rear master cylinder, and this was way easier on the 07 versus earlier models!

Engine will be in Robbs hands early next week, and I ordered everything I should need to plum the fuel line and petcock. I still have to mount the oil cooler, but that is fairly easy to make a mount for.

As of right now, it will either be Works Black Widows or the new Stadium suspension. If stadium can work us a decent deal and they can get all needed info from Robbs, then we should be running them as Robbs and C&D have both highly recommended them.

we started working on the chassis last night, got the lower arms and front shocks installed, also the swing arm and rear shock.

i have to get 2 small clamps for the rear rezzy and then we can move onto the spindles , axle, brakes, wiring....etc etc haha

cody is pumped, he is really liking the color scheme and cant wait to finish it up. in all honesty, we may have it done for Lorettas but he may have to just do a lap or two for points as i am skeptical his injuries will be healed enough to let him ride hard....but the decision will be his.

Pappy
04-24-2007, 07:44 PM
Rob called today and said get ready for the engine, it is on its way!

We pretty much took last week off building on it due to waiting on a few small items to arrive, but kicked it in gear tonight and got the suspension on.

Pappy
04-24-2007, 07:46 PM
After seeing the bill on these shocks, they better perform as well as anything ive ever run on a full size quad

Looking good pappy. Can't wait to see him in action. Is he going to be healed up by the time it's ready to ride?

Pappy
04-24-2007, 08:58 PM
I hope so. The swelling is all but gone, and just some brusing left. He still can not fully straighten his arm but he works with it a few times a day.

Plan A is to have this quad on the ground and ready for a mx race on the 6th of May and then run the GNCC on May 12th. That gives him another week to recover and even if he takes it easy at the mx he should be ready to rip at the National.

i will have a write up shortly!

Pappy
05-07-2007, 08:59 PM
Pretty close to being GNCC ready, or as ready as we can make it

Pappy
05-07-2007, 09:01 PM
The front end works well, and we have some tweaking to do to gain a wee bit of turning radius but it handles well

Pappy
05-07-2007, 09:02 PM
The Flexxbars should work well, and a change to softer bushings will be done tomorrow night

Pappy
05-07-2007, 09:06 PM
The carb is our biggest issue at the moment. We tried using an intake that may have allowed us to clear the starter but it did not work, so a ported stock intake and new carb will be installed tomorrow as well.

power wise, its got spunk! even without the carb situation fixed, it runs great, and started on the first try with out a hitch.

Pappy
05-07-2007, 09:07 PM
The swing arm works well, and the stopping power is perfect with the 450R brake set up.

Pappy
05-07-2007, 09:09 PM
The Rath nerfs solve the problem of header clearence and then some.

However, we have to do some modifying to get our rider some boot clearence as he is having issues with his boot getting stuck under the nerf when shifting.

Pappy
05-07-2007, 09:10 PM
Pegs are wide and plenty sharp, and installation was gravy

Pappy
05-07-2007, 09:14 PM
Our first GNCC on this quad will be saturday, and we are pretty confident it will do well. The issues we do have are fairly easily fixed and I plan on going into more detail when i write an article on this build for the homepage.

The stadium suspension is pretty trick, and we will also be sending them in for some changes that we knew could be coming as this is teh forst set built for use with Robbs components. overall we like them.

Cody looks to do well, and it may take us a round or two to dial everything in but thats racing!

Pappy
05-08-2007, 05:33 PM
Changed a few items tonight, switched to a different carb everything is buttoned up for XC racing. Engine runs smooth and strong

Pappy, you guys are using mx tires for it aren't ya? How do they hold up in xc? I noticed alot of the mini quads do this, but I always thought the 2ply tires would be very puncture prone.

Pappy
05-09-2007, 12:43 PM
cwjr....my buddy jason (wvspeedfreak) bought the drr

bjt7550...i havent totaled everything yet, but when i write the article on the build it will have the pricing

Flynbryan19...we usually run itp holeshots but the razors were on there just because they werent on anything else...lol we havent had any issues with the 2 ply tires (knock on wood) i have a set of gncc's here that are 21'' and might have him run them to increase the steering especially in wet conditions, but weight is everything when you look at suspension on the mini quads, lighter is better

Flynbryan19
05-09-2007, 12:46 PM
Interesting. The mini's must not be as hard on tires as the full-size quads. Thanks Pappy. I was just curious more than anything. One nice looking ride ya'll have. ;)

Pappy
05-15-2007, 09:16 AM
The GNCC did not go as well as planned. between a bad set up on the front end and Cody trying to learn to ride the 4 stroke and shift again we just had a bad day.

I have corrected the issue with the steering which is 100% my fault and it now steers well, turns sharper and doesnt push. I have to make a slight change to the rear brake lever and some other minor adjustments to help Cody fit the quad.

On lap 4 we lost both headpipe bolts and he just kind of settled back and finished the race...oh well:p

The power was good, and once he gets back into the groove of making the shifter quad fly I have no doubt he will fare much better. A few local races should help before the next national.

The only good thing he had to report is that the shocks worked extremely well. I did notice that adjustments are noticed immediatley with the Stadium suspension. If you add rebound or compression its felt, not just a fancy knob to make you feel better but they actually work. More time on them will help when I fully review them but so far so good.

the new quad drew alot of attention

Pappy
05-15-2007, 09:19 AM
The only damage after the race was a broken fender

Pappy
05-15-2007, 09:24 AM
I did not get any shots of him on the MX portion of the course, however he did hit a downhill double and was doing well in that section where the steering wasnt an issue. I have faith in him that he will dial his riding in to the new quad and we will be upfront shortly!

I rode the quad last night and if he can get his shifting down this thing will haul major ***!

Pappy
05-16-2007, 03:08 PM
We are in the middle of a bunch of rain, but weather wont stop us from seat time and testing.

Pappy

Some adjustmenst made to toe and camber and turned him loose again

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g162/400ex127/misc109.jpg

He says it steers well now, but has ot learn to use his weight to plant the front tires a bit more. he is about 20 pounds heavier then when he last rode a built TRX

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g162/400ex127/misc118.jpg

He is shifting much better now that he is starting to get back in the groove of riding this over his auto mini

Pappy
05-20-2007, 05:14 PM
Well, the local race helped us alot. he did not do great, but it helped us see on a more personal level where we needed to focus our attention to better our set up.

On teh start he went into the woods 3rd out of 5, and held 3rd the first lap. the 2nd lap found him hitting a mudhole that covered him and the quad in mud and water. by the 3rd lap he was yelling at me that he couldnt hold on to the slick quad:p lap 4 had his throttle so stiff he could barely push it and he dropped back to 4th where he finished ten laps later.

what we did see was where we could make some changes. after exiting the woods with other riders on his grab bar, he would pull them in the fields, only to be caught exiting the corners.

Pappy
05-20-2007, 05:17 PM
There was one uphill field section that was very choppy, and the engine just did not sound like it was pulling fast enough. On the way home we chatted about what he could do better during the race and what we could look at to get him more competitive, wether it be carb settings, jetting etc

Pappy
05-20-2007, 05:24 PM
So this evening we washed it all up and began to check into the issues. Mud had foud its way into the throttle and that was what was causing the stiff throttle, cleaned lubed and ready for another race.

I moved the needle clip to the 4th position on a suggestion from another racer running a similiar set up, and then came a gearing change. We were running 15/50 and were advised that many in the mx world are running 16/48. I did not have any of those spockets on hand, so we decided to try the 13/50 set up.

After a few warm up runs, Cody let her loose and man what a difference! The quad now will pull to the rev limiter in every gear, something it wasnt doing before. If we had this set up at yesterdays race, I have no doubt we would have finished a spot or two better. Cody reported after more laps on his XC course that he was able to upshift going up hills and it was almost to much coming out of corners as the rear tires just wanted to shred the dirt! The last lap was put in and he rode up to me with a huge smile as it now seems to be close to what we need to get in the battle.

Pappy
05-20-2007, 05:31 PM
So, after a GNCC and a local, we are getting close on a set up that should work well. Cody has repeatedly stated the rear shock is almost perfect, and the fronts working extremely well, as we have been playing with getting them dialed in.

The only issue I am having is regarding the chain. A chain tensioner is ordered and I may have to look into fabricating a chain guide. I can not figure out why the chain keeps loosening and will also be ordering a 428 x-ring to make sure chain stretch isnt the issue.

Thats the updates for now!

Pappy
05-20-2007, 05:35 PM
Oh, and we will be adding handgaurds and carrying along some mudgaurds as Cody said the days of riding without them are way over:p

we run the 19-6-10 fronts with a 18x10x8 rear, but we prefer the 18x9x8 rear from the stock Eton 90. Maxxis has a new tire that may work well also, but for now I have to go with what i know works.

Just plug one of the lines off. The other option is Motion Pro makes a on off valve with a two line inlet and a one line outlet.
