Well I have been looking for a while and never found a thread about this yet, so I figured I would just make one for anyone else that would be interested.

Ice racing tires with snow mobile studs. easy to make, just take the tool and do it right, they hold air no problem, and grab like crazy.

here is my set

These are great for lawn and soft dirt drags also, nothing grabs better...if your allowed to run them...go for it

Tires look sweet, but I think that running snowmobile studs is a big NO NO

Sheet metal screws will round off in no time... I learned the hard way

At least your leg would have a chance with sheet metal screws.

looking at those back tires, I think the front screws are the least of your worries!!!:eek2:

Looks like they bite pretty good though!

440ex have you tried using a skinnier rear tire?

yeah only sheet metal screws are safer. I tryed running only screws at first ( I didn't have any money for studs ) and even with 1344 screws...they easily ran away from me.

The only way to compete with studs....is with studs.

I guess you just have to be carefull and try to keep you feet on the pegs

As for the smaller rear tires, I run 18X10 holeshots for MX, and the fast trekkers I got when I got the rims...they suck for mx so I never used them....so I studded those, there 11 but they mesure 11.5 inched wide, and a very small 15 3/4 inches high lol

I would think a slightly taller and skinnier tire would work better, it would have better roll-out as well as expand a bit more at speed, while retaining the same weight as a fatter shorter tire, and putting more pressure down on a smaller area for better hookup...

those setups are only good for drag racing, that cant be used in sanctioned ice racing (oval/TT) you have to use screws like kold kutters.

Darel rath runs like that. Its totaly worth it you can go off ice with them and not wreck them un like the screw studs.

Darel rath claimes they work best on stock 400ex tires and have the studs at a slant instead of long side each other.

I don't know about sanctioned races...but I know around here they have oval ice races and you can use them...hooks up as good as on pave, only thing is that the rear end is so planted on the ground that to be able to steer you have to have spiked front tires also

if i were u i would get some heel gaurds cuz the first time your foot gets cought in that you'll know it....you won't have a heel or tenden to even care about anymore...look like a gutted deer...but ya i liked that set up the paddle tires had because it looked like it would work good in snow cuz it was the same ixdea as a snowmobile track

sorry the predator with paddle tires

yeah the only problem with the pred was that the studs don't stick out much over the paddles, so on ice they don't get to sick in to much...the more they stick out, the more they grab.

And yeah I know heel guards would be nice

do u run tubes or just run the tires?is there anythin in em to make em leak

44oEX

no you don't need tubes or anything, if it's done right the tires will hold air, just use the hole tool to make the holes in the tire, and NOT a drill bit. the holes are smaller then the studs, so just the studs would probably seal it pretty good, plus there is a washer on the back and one on the top so the tire is skeezed in between so air can't get out.
