Washington GA Round #2

Round two rolled into the Aonia Pass MX facility, located in Washington GA this past weekend as the series marches into 2007. This is one of the GNCC tracks that offers racers and spectators the opportunity to strut their stuff on a MX track and mix up the cross country racing. The large field sections turn into high speed straights that allow the riders to really stretch out after leaving the woods.

The buzz around the pits friday evening centered around a large obstacle Racer Productions had set up right before the finish line, which had some racers very nervous, while others knew the morning racers would surely be directed around it.

Following up the opening round in Florida, racers arrived at this round sun tanned and looking like it was July more then March! Most spent the last 9 days in the south taking a spring break as it were.

As night over took the track, riders spent time getting last minute issues resolved and began final preperations for saturday mornings race.

From my position back in the woods, I could not tell who was in front or see the starts. All I could hear was the sound of racing coming my way. When the first riders appeared, it was Stephanie Parton with a very slight lead over Traci Cecco

John Bowers finished 2nd at the opening round, and was running good at the start of this round as the dust envelopes the riders. The weather was decent, with the sun fading in and out of clouds that everyone had their eye on. Georgia can get nasty with rain!

4x4 Open came through making the dust fly, and seeing these big machines dart in and out of the trees is pretty sketchy, especially when they are coming right at you!

Jamie Bougher hits the field as I saw a rider without a machine in the background.

It was soon apparent there had been a crash behind me, and with cries of help, I took off to find a track official

With help heading to the downed rider, I went to cut off the leaders and arrived just in time for the Womens class to come past. Cecco was now leading and putting distance between her and the rest of the class

This section got real busy as classes mixed it up. There were plenty of places a new line could be taken and several riders made it work for them.

Wide open runs through the field sections sent dust and grass flying as riders made up time and picked up a position or two

Wide open, brake hard and re-enter the woods, all in a days work at the General

I headed over to the MX track to see how the riders were doing in this section. One of the first riders I encountered set sail on his 4x4!

The Aonia pass mx track was used and alot of riders seemed to be having fun even if they were not going huge over the jumps!

Passes were made as the riders worked through the MX portion

It was a war of nerves, with alot of riders not wanting to give up a spot on the MX track, and not wanting to hit the jumps especially on a big utility.

The dust ran me off the MX track so I cut over to see if I could catch the leaders, and in no time Cecco came by riding as smooth as glass still holding a lead over Parton

Parton came by but Cecco was already 1/2 way done the MX track

The course wondered down by a small lake which was seen from the road. Several cars slowed to check out the action causing some bottle necks of a different kind!
