if your just learning to ride you definetly dont need 600 power, it would be an ok bike, but if its gonna be your first bike, look for a cheaper learner bike, like an older used bike, you may outgrow a gs 500 pretty quickly

within one week this happened at my house two summers ago. and all of them stayed in our garage.

brother 1 bought a brand new zzr600
brother 2 bought a brand new r6
dads friend bought a brand new cbr600f4i
they all were shaky at first because they have only ridden atv's. they all got used to them fast. they all were brand new and the yami and honda were piped. they all topped out at 147-150 (unless my brothers lied but why would they)

brother 1 sold zzr and bought brand new ninja 636 this past summer.
brother 2 sold r6 and moved to fla and bought a mach 1.
dads friend had baby and sold it.

2/3 dropped them because of stupid mistakes (shoelaces untied, dropping in gravel driveway, riding at slow speeds) basically the bike might go down on you.

what my plan is: buy a used 600 and put frame sliders on it before I ride it, then after two years or so and a few drops, im buying a newer gxsr 750 :macho

i wouldnt buy a new one, buy a used one, then you wont lose as much money when your ready for more power.

#1 thing is though, dont cheap out on helmet. and wear it too lol. and gloves. they have saftey courses also that help a ton. i plan on taking one in 9months to a year from now.
