Round #2 continued what for most was a long break away from home that started in Vero Beach Florida at round #1. many of the youth riders and their families turned the back to back race weekend into a 9 day racing vacation.

90cc Mod winner Kyle Riley was eager to back up his win at round two and awaits the start in the early morning light of the "General"

Cody Hill rode in the 300cc Youth production class at the first round, and was at the General to test out the new DRR Limited model. Walking the 5 mile course friday evening, it was soon apparent to us that this course was one of the best laid out tracks for youth riders we had ever seen. An excellent mix of field, wood, mud and other obstacles that were going to test all the young riders and their machines.

Matthew Harris awaits patiently aboard his race prepped Kasea. Matthew wasted no time in the first round, grabbing the holeshot and leading the first two laps before running into some issues that prevented him from battling for the overall. This round was a new race, and he looked ready for the work that lay ahead of him.

Family and friends gather around each rider before the event, all nervous with excitement that every parent feels when their child is about to compete.

For some, it is just another chance to ride and they have no problem showing how much they enjoy the atmosphere at the races.

The 8 am starts are early for sure, but you wont find hardly a groggy person on the line, with the exception of yours truly! The national anthem played on as I snapped a shot over the shoulder of super talented Micheal Ferraro

The morning calm was shattered as the green flagged waved and the sound of 90 Mod came roaring to life.

Matthew Harris was leading the charge around the first turn, with Seth Mumford #900 and Matthew Close#12 applying pressure at the start

Pappy

The rest of the class quickly made the first turn more like rush hour as each rider made attempts to out corner the other and make a mad dash heading for turn two

Pappy

Pulling out of turn two and hard on the gas was Matthew Harris

Cody Hill heading for turn three, to this point this was break in and his longest ride on the new quad!

90 Mod 8-10 was next to hit the Georgia clay, and it was Logan Merriman with the holeshot.

Pappy

Merriman held the lead until turn two when an inside move placed a new leader as they charge for the woods

90 Limited 11-15 approached turn one in pro like fashion, and it was Kyle Hellyer with the holeshot

Watching this action through my lens keeps me out of the loop until later when I can view the pictures. It never ceases to amaze me how well our young riders are growing and how well they are doing in this series!

Just like the big guys, tangles do occur.

90 Limited 8-10

Austin Timmons from Warsaw Indiana grabs himself a holeshot and never looked back! Timmons won his class and will be sporting a nice plaque to keep him company on the long trip home!

70 CVT 6-11

Charlie Welch came scooting around turn one, securing the holeshot and continued to race his little heart out taking his class win! A big congrats Charlie!

Brayden Shick leads the rest of 70 CVT out onto the course as the starting area cleared and the racing was fully underway.

The future pro riders are being developed right now!

The end of the first lap neared as the sound of a 2 stroke could be heard coming through the woods. A streak of yellow appeared as he rocketed in and out of the bottom leading to the scoring area. Harris was on a mission!

Pappy

Mumford was in pursuit as he worked his Cobra to the scoring area

Pappy
03-11-2007, 02:26 PM
Ferraro was slipping in to third and was not going to let Mumford out of his reach

Pappy
03-11-2007, 02:27 PM
Riley was charging hard on his TRX90 as the first lap neared completion

Pappy

Hill was learning the new ride but riding the mini quad was not coming back to him as fast we had hoped.

Pappy
03-11-2007, 02:31 PM
The scoring area was a twisting back and forth maze of sorts, and once cleared it was back to the fields for a wide open run through the center of the course.

Pappy
03-11-2007, 02:33 PM
Harris continued to lead but the real story was developing behind him as Ferraro had made the pass to overtake second place and was now charging hard after the leader

Pappy
03-11-2007, 02:34 PM
Brycen Neal had taken over the thrid spot as Mumford and his cobra started to fall off the leaders pace

Pappy

The track had it's share of sections where mud would be a factor, and by the end of the second lap it was starting to get hard picking out riders as they took on that wonderful uniform color of thrown mud!

The DRR Hill was riding was untouched except for the addition of an aftermarket airbox. With no seat time and no set up to go with, he was doing what he could as the laps went on. A kill switch issue at a bottleneck, trying to remember the rear brake was not a clutch lever and there is no foot brake started to have it's effect on his riding. None the less, he had a blast and said that he would have loved to ride this course all day!

Another great rider in the 90 Mod class that also was having a tuff day was Jesi Stracham. After suffering mechanical issues and getting a tow back to her pit, she re-entered the course trying to save the race and gain some points.

Riley checked in and headed off for another lap, and his father expressed that they may have a steering issue. After the race, it was discovered that the stem bushing bracket had come loose and allowed the stem to move a great deal. Thats a bad break for Riley, but I am positive he will be back upfront next round.

Cody came in after Riley and I stopped him for a splash of fuel, allowing a few positions to be lost. We did not know if he could make the entire race on a tank and felt it better to be safe then sorry. The DRR was doing well for being in stock trim.

Matthew Close was riding well, and man his Kasea rips! Close finished the day in the 15th position

The white flag came out as tired young riders work to scoring

Harris came across the checkers and secured the win!

Pappy
03-11-2007, 02:53 PM
One more lap and this could have been a different race. Ferraro was only 4 seconds off Harris at the end, and he was running with a broken exhaust! Steele Creek could be his race! Excellent riding Micheal!

Pappy
03-11-2007, 02:56 PM
Jesi Stracham's day just wasnt getting better, as she neared the checkers her quad quit again forcing her to push it across the line. I am sure she will be back in action at the next round, looking to redeem herself!

90 Limited 11-15 class winner Alex Semande gets a heck of a congradulatory rousing as he exits the track!

That wraps up our overview of the Youth action from this round. We had a great time and can't wait to see everyone again at the next round!

As for us, Cody is not sure what he wants to do or what he wants to race. You might just get to see my other son Ryan make his national debut at Steele Creek aboard the DRR!

Everyone be safe, and I hope everyone gets a chance to see all these great young riders in action this season!

Pappy,
These are great pics and race coverage for the GNCC. Back on Page 3 there is a pic of rider #33 Brycen Neal. Could you tell me who build his A-Arms?
