I just bought an 01 Raptor 660. The person I bought it from said that 2nd gear was out of it and adjusted the price accordingly. I've got the tranny disassembled and I have a couple of questions.
The transmission was clean with no shavings, teeth, or anything else in the bottom.
The shift forks are worn to a point they need replaced
The shift cross shaft is torqued and needs to be replaced
The gears look great with no indication of problems or wearing.
Was the actual gear for 2nd bad? weak metal etc.
Was the overall transmission a poor design leading to this problem?
Did the shift forks come apart and jam into the 2nd gear?
Bottom line, should I replace the gear or gears while I'm in there, or just the parts that need it?
What was the cause of the problem that leads to the gear going bad?
Were all 01's affected?
Thank you
