pro taper handlebars on 400ex

this is prolly a dumb question but.....i broke my stock renthals. I bought a set of protapers from ebay and just got them today. I assumed they are stock replacements. However, all over the damn installation instructions it says they won't work with the stock clamps. My 400 is a 45 minute drive away so i won't know until tomorrow if this is true. Does anyone have a definitive answer for me? thanks in advance...

it depends if they are the fatbars or not.. if they are 1-1/8 around the middle then they will not work.

if they are big bars you have to get new clamps or adapters to make them work. they are 1/4" larger in diameter than the stock bars for addesd strength but you have to have adapters (bought mine for $42) or new clamps ( which i do not believe are available for the stock stem)
