Is it bad to run a 400ex with a leaking head gasket? I ordered a new head gasket, but if its not bad to run it with a leaking gasket I may go riding this weekend.

Also do I need to drain the oil to install a new head gasket? I would think not but I dont know how much oil sits up in the head. If I let it sit for a day or so before I install the gasket should the oil go down to the crankcase/oil tank then I could replace it with out changing the oil?

Thanks

It's not the best idea, but as long as you keep an eye on the oil level it should be fine... You don't need to empty the oil to put a new head gasket in.

i wouldnt ride it, it could possibly warp it.

it could warm the head or the gasses flowing by the soft aluminum could actually wear a groove in it. i would not suggest it.
