I just got my new ride on wednesday and and its a 89' with a brand new bottom end and a new ct 310 cylinder on it. I've kinda gotten out of racing full time but can't resist not riding so since I sold my hybrid I came across this R for $3,000. Let me know what you guys think. I'm not totally diggin the frame color or the front tires but it can be changed lol. Later.

Hook up a compression tester and see what the engine is pumping. That will indicate what kind of fuel you should be running.

IMO, this is an important step on any 250r purchase. The last one I bought pumped 235psi without a peep from the previous owner about octane requirements.

Hey guys thanks for the compliments and quads14589 its a nice looking 250R. $3200 I'd be asking a few questions. But what year is it? And what all has he told you about it? Back to mine the previous owner said to run 110 octane. Also what is the consensus on premix ratio? The previous owner said he ran it at 32:1. Thanks again guys.

Well I would do as the others recommended and have a compression test done. It doesn't take much to screw a tester in and kick it over a few times. Atleast thats how I have done them in the past. If at all possible do it with him before you buy it and then base how much you want to pay from that a little bit. I think you will get a good deal for $3200 but just look it over just like anything else. From the pics it looks really nice and clean. My roommate just picked up a really clean 86 last weekend and its in great shape and he paid $3000 for his. Now we both have them so I think it will be great. Well good luck quads14589. PM me if you have any questions or leave a message here.

1) warm up the engine to operating temp
2) remove the plug and screw in the comp tester
3) open the throttle all the way (important!)
4) keep kicking it over until the guage stops climbing

Engines with lots of compression may take quite a few kicks depending on how strongly you can kick. Most any engine is gonna need at least a couple kicks, I think.

Having the engine warm isn't absolutely necessary, but it will get you the most accurate figure. You'll get a slightly lower number on a cold engine. Not sure how much lower--around 5% maybe, perhaps less [shrug].
