i am looking at getting a steering damper for my 03 400ex. what is the best make to go for and what should i stay away from?
also do they make a big difference to rider fatigue?

Depends what your looking for...stick types are the cheapest and do their job, but also work agaisnt you in turns (but I ran one for a few years running XC and it worked great). The types you mount on the handle bars such as Scotts, GPR, or Elka sytems 3 and 5 or the types that mount at the bottom of the stem like WER and Precision have more adjustablility and decrease dampening the farther you are away from center keeping the dampener from working agaisnt you in turns. If you feel like shelling out the big bucks (400-500) I would buy a Precision or WER. If you only were looking to spend 150$ look for a stick type dampener by Denton or PEP. Make sure you get a rebuildable stick type thought so you can get more use out of it.

go to ebay and get a noss machines one...i have one on my 400ex and my 450r...i paid 120 e piece for them shipped..they are not rebuildable, but tyou can buy a new "cartridge"(the stick part) for them for around $40...the rebuild kit will cost you 25 and if you need someone to rebuil d it for you, another 20 or so...and this way you get a new stabilzer...the only parts that wouldn't ne new are the mounts...

when I installed mine I noticed it was nicer. but not quite worth the 200$.

Untill I broke it by running into somthing and bending the stick. I couldent ride my quad with out it. So I ended up buying another one.

they are well worth it. If I was to do it again I would go with a non-rebuildible one. I end up smashing it before it needs new fluid.

Its only 20-30$ more for a rebuildable one and you should changed the oil about once a year.

Thinking about getting one of the Noss non-rebuildable ones on eBay for an up coming trip to Waynoka. Anyone have any pics of a stick type one installed?

i put a denton rebuildable on mine only rode once with it sofar. it definitly keeps the bars from jerking around but it seems like the front end is pushing real bad in the turns now. will i get used to the new feel or is there something else to do? i changed the setting from 7 to 5 and back a little difference
