If you want it flat black, you don't want to put any clear on it, unless it's a flat clear??? I think there is such a thing. Maybe go to an autobody shop and see what they tell you.

Just put a black Helmet Skinz on it. ;)

I use a skin on mine for the trails, and take it off when I'm on the MX Course or in the Dunes.

I like the flat black on certain things, helmets ARE one of them, not a harley fan, but this flat black Street Bob is pretty cool too:

Try Krylon Fusion paint its made for painting plastics and you can pick it up at wall mart. I think MxJunkie used it on his banshee to paint the plastics and it came out good. You might want to PM him for more info on it. He seems to know his stuff.

just sand it real well and paint if any colour you want in normal tempature. and then clear coat it. should be fine.

Theirs a type os paint stuff you can get at a auto place. Its really strong alot of people put it on over their polished parts to stop them from loosing their shine. You could put that on the helmit but it might make the helmit go glossy.

High temp flat black motor paint might hold good.

I have four words for you...

Spray On Truck Bedliner

I coated my helmet with it and have since taken a few spills.....no chipping or fading yet:p

What about those big prints that you dip stuff into, like the camo plastics on utility quads. Isn't that how the newer helmets have that flat black look? I heard that stuff is scratch resistant.

good idea with the bedliner stuff.. that might work great and the clear coat thing i dont really want to sand paper any of the helmet cuz of the fiber glass underneath.. im thinking that vedliner might work good.. will i have to put primer on first or anything or will it grip to the helmet u think? and motor paint might work good too.. hopefully i can go to a auto shop sum time..

Flat Black is #1! Scuff it lightly get some good paint that will work on plastic and find some low gloss clear, might be hard or impossible to come by in cans; I helped a guy build a hot rod and for the cab we sand blasted it and used a low gloss clear for the bare metal look, so it should work to keep a flat black...

Yeah, not too much though, or the marks will show through the paint. This creates bumps/ridges for the paint to grip onto.

What color is your helmet now? You might need several coats of paint to hide whats underneath. Painting is very tricky and I know nothing about it though.

Sand it with a high grit sandpaper. I would go with 400-600 grit.

my helmet is like white and black rite now.. and silvero outlining.. so sand it a little then paint it black with a strong paint i gotta find

i painted mine and it hold up pretty good and if it chips then touch it up. Mine have skid marks all over it so i painted it black.

wet sand your helmet first with 400 grit then 600 grit sandpaper. Wet sanding takes the special sand paper that is black. Talk to anyone who works at the hardware store. It helps to mix a little soap with the water you use.

Nothing you buy in a paint can will be strong enough. Take it to an autobody shop and have them spray it. You need a paint with a hardener mixed in...a catalyst.

Flat paint will always mark easier than gloss paint. There are some satin clear coats you can use. They won't be quite flat but way, way less shiny than a gloss clearcoat.

Hope this helps.

by the way, keep your helmet as light as possible. You are given one neck to go through you whole life with and it really isn't all that strong to begin with. Don't compound the issue but sticking a heavy helmet on your head...bed liner will probably add at least 1 pound and maybe 2 depending on how thick you go.

Think about the percentage difference between a 3 lb helmet and a 4 lb helmet. You don't want to be yanking the tendons and nerves in your neck any more than necessary. Your head is already too heavy for your neck. Man wasn't designed to go 40+ miles per hour and then suddenly stop or take repeated landings from big jumps.

Once you screw up your neck up you will understand and suffer for the rest of your life. I highly recommend keeping your helmet under 3.2 lbs...yep, these are the more expensive helmets. You gotta pay to play and be safe as possible.
