Springs coming and I need to find a replacement for the blaster that I sold last fall. I've decided that the best quad for me is a 400 so I began looking around for deals. Out of these 6 which one do you think is the best deal.

1) 2001 400ex with the following mods:
OMF air scoops
spyder mxr handlebars
pro armor teather kill switch
nerfs
umf skidplate
douglas rims rear
Razr 2's rear
new stock front tires
white brothers E series pipe.
k&N air filter
meyer race fenders front and rear
Nacs headlight covers
hotcams camshaft
hotrods piston rod
wyseco piston
rebel gears
Big Gun CDI box
K&K master cylinder cover
renthall chain
+2+2 durablue rear axle
RAD bearings and case (rear)

Reason for selling is not having enough time to ride and his asking price is $3000.

5) 2002 400ex
Listing:
LOW hours on 440 motor, too many extras to list, solid quad, never raced. $2,500

http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/3964/83364605be6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

6) 2003 400ex
Listing:
GREAT machine! Runs perfect, trail ridden, low hours, clean, well maintained, garaged. All original equipment except dg skidplate. For a fee will assist with delivery. Phil $3,000

Right now I am leaning towards #1. Is there anything that I should be looking for as far as recalls and common problems go?

Any input is welcome.

#5 has the fastest mods and the 440 big bore kit wich is very reliable and fast.

My advise is dont buy someone else's problems. Get the one with the least amount of mods done to it. Some of them sound good like "cool this is already done" but what its really saying is "I rode this dog HARD"

#6) Newer, Garaged, and Clean. That's the way I would go. I bet it would out last the others you're looking at.

Now that's the first time I've seen "440" and "reliable" in the same sentence.:ermm:

#3 is relly nice and for the price i relly would't care if it was beat the front end is a pretty pricey setup and if your going to race that would be my choice

I would say 1 or 3. I'd lean towards 3 cuz of the suspension set up and hypers. But 1 has alot of nice stuff to.

go with the least modded-#2 or #6 least problems, and give you the chance to build it up on your own

in all honesty. the first one sounds great...but the mods done aren't as much performance as show. there are alot of internal engine mods done...but i think that the #3 is your best "bang for the buck" suspension, and motor mods...and it looks sweet too. IMO, go for #3

Either I'm missing it or you can't count.
Seriously an unmodded motor will typically last longer than than a modded one if they are both maintained.

thats true, but that doesnt mean a modded motor wont last awile, and a 440 can be reliable if built correctly

If you buy another person's 440 you won't be sure it's was done correctly. I'd prefer to ensure it was done correctly by quality people I can trust. I have heard of a lot of issues with 440 modded motors.

2 because i looks like its in the best shape and it dont have as many mods. every body thinks that if a quad has alot of mods it is worth more WRONG it means that the person has put alot of money into it because they ride it alot and beat the **** out of it and mods dont make it worth any more they make it worth less if i was you i would buy a stok machine and do it yourself
by the way good choice 400ex you wont be dissapointed at all

I like 1 the best then #4 they both look well kept and it gives you the chance to make up your own mind weather you want a 440 or not .If its not fast enough you can have someone you can trust to put a 440 kit in it for you Good luck Oh and offer the guy $2500 for #1 see if he bites.

so what they ride it hard, no different than anybody on here, all of the racers i know take better care of their bikes and do more mait. on it than somebody that has a stock one that sits outside in the rain, snow, sun 24/7

#6 It's always best to go with a less modified bike and make your own mods. Generally the fewer mods the more reliable it will be.

If they were all nice quads I would still take the one with the TCS frontend on it. After buying selling quads since I was old enough to have money, I've learned that in most cases I would rather buy a quad that has been raced, A) because Im going to race it myself anyways B) because they generally are better taken care of C) It has a lot of parts on it already that I would end up buying.

Honestly even one that is bone stock with the least mods, does not make it the best choice, how do you know it didnt fall out the back of a truck at 70mph or something? You dont know jack about any of them....

yupp. and the one that is modded and raced would have been fixed the right way...the first time if it had fallen out of the back of a truck at 70 mph.

Id personally go with # 6 why? because its almost stock. The engine is untouched by anyone, so you hopefully don't end up with some one else's head ace poorly built ex their trying to get rid of,you know what i mean go stock so you can personallize the engine to your likings and then you know whats wrong with it ,meanig you really know whats in side those crank cases not just what some says. TRY TO FIND THE COLSET ONE TO STOCK NEW AS POSSIBLY FOR AROUND HERE IN NY $3000 YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO DO SOME LOOKING BUT TRUST ME BUDDY.

So I went and checked out a couple quads including #1 and #3 and ended up bringing home #1 today. The front end on #3 was a nice setup but the previous owner had raced it a couple times and definetely got his moneys worth out of it. #1 was immaculate all around and already has just about all of the mods that I would put on it for my style of riding so I couldn't pass it up. I ended up taking it home for $2750 which I don't think is too bad of a price and he even threw in a pair of brand new front tires.

Thanks to everybody that helped me out and I'll see the rest of you around the forum.
