dyno jet washer or clip retainer

ok ok i know this is stupid but me and my friend were changing the needle jet and we lost the washer, 1? i put the stock needle with clip, but do i need a retaining clip or washer? if so will it harm the engine with out it?

The washer you get in your K&N kit is for fine adjusting the needle. if you put the washer under the needle clip its like lowering the clip a 1/2 of notch, this will help with fine tuning.
