best 400

hey guys as some may know i am getting a 400 somthun weither i have to build or buy it but i may have a guy with a suzuki 400 it is an 05 i have a thread on here but i want to know which is the best 400 so if i have to build one i know it will be in stock form for a while as i am building it and i may get a few upgrades as i get used to it but what i am asking is

1. which the most stable
2.which needs less upkeep
3.which has the best top speed and accelaration

and i am sure there are more i just cant think of

I'm pretty sure the 400EX pretty much dominates the 400's

400ex are better than kawis ans suzukis go with the honda

I would take either one, but the Z is probably a better starting point. Im a Honda guy, but if they were the same money I would probably go with the zuk, if its a newer one. Make sure it has the GEN 2 frame, and try and get an 05 and up one. A lot of changes.

well i dont know go look at the specs on the two the suzuki is a good bit lighter then the honda everything else is about the same

They are both rated at something like 375

You have this backwards. Weight is about the same, everything else is different. Sure they have nearly identical dimensions, but power/suspension everything else is different. Both are great choices, I think it comes down to what ever you find a deal on or can afford. A 400ex will probably be cheaper and there are millions of used parts available for them. Z's are great too. Which ever is the bette deal...

well do think a 05 stock suzuki for 3000 or possibly less if the guy still has do think that is a good deal

the z suspension and cooling system is better and top end speed there really close however ive found the 400ex is way more realiable and you can get a better deal on one. also like everyone says the 400ex motor is like bullet proof and can take a serious beating

i mean i run them pretty hard i ride atleast once a day and do some small jumping but do you think the z could take the beating

Yes it can. $3000 for an 05 zuk is a fair price if its in great shape.

My friend has a slightly modded '05 KFX400 that was smokin the 450R's and YFZ's

umm ok that was rather random and yes am sue there are some 400 with the right mods could out run a 450

3 grand for an 05 is a great price. i sold my 03 in great shape for $3,250 about 6 months ago..

i would go for the z400. i did a lot of research and chose a z400 bkac when i had mine. i was told they responde better to mods and had better cooling. either way you get a great bike. z400s are just a little more up to date.

go with the z400 man. The ex's can turn a little easier stock but everything else is better on the z (or the dvx or kfx) 400 IMO. Stock to stock the suspension is also better on the suzuki. Also the z400 has liquid cooling which is a big plus

yeah it just this is the biggest quad i have been on and but i am not scared of the speed i just want somthing that handles good

YFZ450Ridr said it perfect. The Z's alittle bit more up to date.

But the 400ex would be my choice again, I prefer how they ride over the Z's.

yeah but the thing is if i can get the zuki i dont have to build it the deal is if i get a honda i have to buil fit if get the suzki i have money to buy parts it is complacated

trust me man i used to have a stock z400 and my brother and law had a stock 400ex speed wise it really wasnt much of a comparision after 2nd, the z would start pulling away. The only reason i think the ex turns a little better is because the front is lighter. If you were gonna be doing just road tricks like wheelies, id go with the 400ex because its perfect for that. If your gonna be jumping and running it hard, chose the z400. The only weak part of the z is the frame and that can be fixed with some gussets

400ex is super reliable, suspension is okay, save 200$ and buy some 450r shocks and get them rebuilt. its power is pretty much (alittle less powerful than the z) but same for the most part. there are more parts around for them, and there usually cheaper.

DEFINATELY get the 400ex! I wanted a KFX400 for the longest time but i got a great deal on my bros 05 400ex, and i couldn't pass it up. Plus i knew that they were bulletproof. Now this had a few mods and 18 inch tires. And when i went up against my cousin's z400 just about every time i got beat by a little bit. Some of the races i got perfect shifts through all the gears, and when i say perfect i mean like perfect and i ended up beating him by a couple lengths. And his had a full pipe and an air filter with pre-filter airbox lid. I also had more torque than him allowing me to pull better throughout the gears, especially when i got good shifts. Now when i go to race him with the slip on and air filter with vented lid and Hotcam stage 1, let me tell you i got ALOT more torque if we were lugging both our quads in 4th I'd be able to pull right out without even coming close to stalling. Also when we raced i pulled away like a rocket and had him up until 5th and he creeped up to me and i edged him out by about quarter of a quad. and when we have tops speed tests I'm slightly faster than him and he has 20 inch tires also. Now remember the Hotcam i got was supposed to increase low-end and mid with slight top end gains.


I'm going to be putting a Maier hood on my quad soon and put a 416 kit in my quad this summer so i can be ready to race when i turn 16.

hey yellow400ex05 it sounds to me like your honda had more mods done to it and it sounds like a unfair race and if i recall you said the suzuki was keepping up with less mods

There is no comparison. You CAN MAKE a z400 run with 450's and indeed feel like a 450. NEVER will a 400ex run like or feel like a 450. They are out-dated. Almost everything about the z400 is newer technology than on the honda. If you go with and 05' and up z400 you also get fully adjustable shocks with rezzies. Not going to happen with a honda. Just my $0.02.

yea man i would deffinately go with the z. they are a bit faster stock than the ex and once u start doing mods they really pull away. and the 05s and up have the great suspension. i had an 05 and had no problems what so ever and have nothing but good things to say about it.

Ok I admit, that was pretty broad at best. My point was that the z incorporates fully adjustable shocks with rezzies, dohc, liquid cooling, plus has reverse (not important to most, but still handy).
