looks like a 2 smoke to me

400ex's generally dont have that large open port in the side of the cylinder;)

looks pretty bad. What was done to this thing.

Yep looks like your air filter fell off and sucked in some dirt. My 250r did that once, looked just like that. All because the clamp holding my filter broke and I didn't realize it.

Deffinetly a 2-stroke

2 compression rings, no oil ring

Exaust and intake ports in the cylinder walls.

LoL:p

Slow, Ha, I remember that guy.

got new pipe, jets, air filter and shaved head.
and was riding it for a while than got a little hot
started to ping, so i let it cool off and than it started
to knock!! i was told that i prolly didnt have fuel rich
enough and started to burn the piston:confused:
what do you guys think? maybe i gotta run race gas?
i was running 93..

Sounds like it was running too lean or maybe the fuel/oil ratio isn't mixed enought.

Is it oil injected? I belive they are

slo250

yea its oil injected

firefighterjosh

Does it smoke when its running? Maybe the fuel injection lines need pulled and cleaned.

Is there oil in it?:p

smokes a little on start up, i was told the oil i use doesnt smoke a whole lot. i use polaris synthetic.
its useing the oil cuz i keep filling it:)
dont have but maybe 12 hours on it so dont think anything needs to be cleaned yet or should have broke
that quick?

I would think it should smoke a little all the time. My guess is it has something to do with ether running too lean of a jet or running to lean with oil.

That thing looks like it was running SUPER LEAN.
Lean running causes that pitting.

yeah lean

way lean...any two stroke ive seen will smoke at start-up. thats normal. one of my riding buddies uses the polaris syn. in his polaris and it smokes just like any other 2 stroke ive seen/ridden. so its too lean if its not smoking a little bit while youre running it. just saying that this oil does in fact smoke.

thats not an oil problem, thats not getting enough fuel, you need to increase jet sizes. being lean it was getting extra hot next to the exhaust port and melted off the tip of the piston, at the same time the reason the cylinder is scored is because the piston as a whole was getting too hot and swelled enough to make it tight in the bore, hence the damage

that does not qualify as a 2 stroke thats a 2 cooked
