i ran either 16-36 or 15-36 with 18's otherwise 1st gear was useless

1st gear is mostly useless anyway. i would find a good gearing combo that will allow you to use 3rd in most situations, 2nd in tight corners, and 4th or 5th on long straights.

I run on my 400ex, with 18" rears....13 tooth up front and a 38 in the rear....but the right thing to do when you go to the track is carry a 10mm,8mm, and a flat blade screwdriver.....and a bunch of sprockets for the front! i have a 13,14,15,16...and a 38 and a 40 for the rear

What about gearing on a 416, stage 1 cam, 18" rear tires, and a rev box? I ride mx tracks and dunes so please help because I am rebuilding.

Stock with 20's and 15/38 gearing is 2.53

15/38 w/18's 2.81
15/36 w/18's 2.67

To get the stock 2.53 w/18's you need 15/34.

15/35 w/ 18's 2.59

If you want more I have a whole chart I can send you.
