Skids or no skids

I have a 04 Wolverine and ride it Hard and am thinking about making some skid plates for it out of aluminum. Can anyone tell be the pros and cons to doing this ouside of the obvious (better protection vs. trapped mud)

Pros: Protects engine, slid over obsticales better


Cons: ???? I do not know any

Just make sure everyonce in a while you take the skid off and wash the belly of your quad

Only con is it weighs a little more.. But there is no reason I would ever not have a full skid plate on a wolverine. ;)

Thanks, kind of what I was thinking and I'm at the drawing board stage now. I've looked at all of the pre-fab ones and they all seemed too $$$. Thanks for the extra nudge...
