if you tap on the spindle near where the ball joint goes through with a hammer, the vibrations will knock it loose. you dont have to hit it very hard, and just pull on the ball joint and it will come out.

The tapping on the spindle doesn't always work though. You're better off getting a ball joint removal tool. They're pretty cheap, like $7 at an auto parts store.

Pickle forks are great if you want to trash the boots on your balljoints.

I'd try tapping on the sides first, then with the nuts on but loose, try with a big punch on the balljoint studs themselves driving them down.

or..........

Use the ball joints against each other, find a cheap socket to place in between the nuts, then back them off against each other, a few turns each and your ball joints will pop on out!

Or buy a ball joint ball joint remover tool, not a pickle fork!

what chino said... or use a bolt with a nut on the end, put it between the ball joint studs and un-thread, comes right off
