Ford taurus SHO?

I was just looking at random videos of cars trucks and quads and i found a video of a Ford Taurus SHO. I've never heard of them before. And they are powered by Yamaha?? I also noticed that some are 6 cylinder and some are 8 cylinder? If you know this car tell me some things about it and what they mean by powered by Yamaha.. I think this ar is random in a way because since when did Ford make a Taurus fast lol.

i dont like ford but i herd there really fast, they have a yamaha engine and i have seen one beat a 5.0 mustang that had an exhaust and a k&n. if u debadge it and put a couple dings in it it would be a decent sleeper

The FWD SHO had a Yamaha engineered 3.0 liter V-6 that produced 220hp. The 1991 Mustang GT was rated at 225hp. Both ran low 15sec 1/4 mile times.

how come i never see alot of people out there driving them? Is it the fact that they are labled as a Taurus? And why did they put a Yamaha engine in it? Was Ford bored one day and decided lets make a "sleeper" type car and put a big engine in a low reputation car.

My friend had one, is was pretty quick. He spun a bearing in though. He was screwing around one day on the highway and went to down shift from 5th to third going around 80 and accidently dropped it down to first.:huh The motor couldn't take all the r's the motor was revving at, and boom, blown motor. He said he just about shat himself, being front wheel drive too, it threw him and everything in his car forward with great momentum. He thought he was going to go through the windshield!

I owned one for like 7 years. It was a '92 that I bought in '98 I believe. I loved the car. It was still running with 155k on the motor. Funny thing was I was ready for a new car so I stopped changing the oil at 100k miles...haha.

Yes, the V6 SHO's are faster than the V8's.

I prefer the V6's also because you could get them with a 5-spd tranny (for a while that's all you could get). Not sure how much I'd like an auto, or the other body style with the V8 (which as far as I know was not produced by Yamaha).

The cars were GREAT in their day, but they are a little dated now....I wouldn't mind a nice low mileage V6 for a project car. You could get them up over 400hp pretty easy. Makes for a good sleeper.

Oh, and as far as the V6 and reliability. The motor was the best part of the car. It was almost bulletproof in my opinion. The car had a rev limiter at just above 7-grand and it was not because of the engine. Supposedly the engine would continue to produce power way over 7 grand, but they put the rev limiter on it because the other belt drive accessories couldn't take it.

My buddy had one, ran 15.2 in the quarter, and it needed a tune up.

They are quick, another kid at school had one and every day he would rev the HELL outta that thing EVERY DAY when he left. Haha

the v8 was a yamaha also i had a 1999 sho v8 auto. i didnt think it was fast but maybe im used to the acceleration of a yfz or a yzf haha

The v-8 sound amazing when piped, but an olds aurora will blow it off the road, and not sound as good;) there are a couple of each around school.

Ah, I had 2 of these..... a '93 and '95 both were automatics and they did haul pretty good. They have a 140mph speedometer and they WILL do every bit of it!!! The 1st Gen. Taurus's came out in '89 with a 3.0l Yamaha V6, 5 speed and they were pretty much the same up until '92. They got a body makeover, but same engine. In '93 they were a available with an automatic tranny and a 3.2l Yammy V6. In '94 they got better brakes in the front. '95s were the same as the '94s. From '96-'99, they got a total makeover. They were powered by 3.4l Yammy 7k redline V8 with an auto tranny and much better brakes. I actually have a complete top-end for one of these yet, but I don't have the cars anymore! The earlier 5speeds were the quickest. I once watched a kid run at the track and he pulled a 13.9second quarter mile time with just an exhaust and a quaife limited slip dif...
The engines were pretty advanced in it's day with secondary intake runners, DOHC, shim under bucket valves and a 7k redline.
The engines were pretty solid also too as long as you did your 60k mile maintenance (adjust valves, replace belts, sparkplugs + wires). The valve cover seals were also prone to letting oil seep into the sparkplug wells causing a miss...
Anyways I thought they rode and handled pretty decent too but the brakes were kinda weak.........I could go on but I won't.
