so here is my feeble attempt if anyone cares to know how to do it...

lesson 1

coloring white/aluminum/chrome colors

ok first heres how you just color something a different color, there are different ways to do it, this is just what i prefer

always remember its easier to color a silver or white object

so step one open your file of choice and make a new layer and set it to multiply, make sure its ontop of your background layer or you wont see these results

http://img1.putfile.com/thumb/3/6201103913.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=4903463)

now select the parts you want colored with your choice of tool and go to the multiply layer and color it in, its that simple

now the body is orange and the rim is black(er)

this is what just the multiply layer looks like with no background

and your done, this is all you need to know if youre just doing like your rims, frame, nerfs whatever to a different color

lesson 2

changing colors

ok now that you know how to add colors heres how you change em, open your file of choice

http://img1.putfile.com/thumb/3/6201103954.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=4903461)

and go to the top to image>adjustments>replace color, use the dropper tool and drag it over the color you want to replace, the fuzziness option is how broad of a color selection you get like the yellow i replaced if the fuzziness is low then you only get the color yellow you clicked on if its at its max then you get most of the shades of yellow, drag the hue saturation and lightness bars to play with your options when your done hit ok and youve changed colors of the object

lesson 3

desaturation and coloring

ok now heres about the final basic thing you need to know to do this photoshop thing now remember i said that its always easier to color a white or silver object, well what if its already yellow or red or something? desaturate it!! yay.

first of all LathersR not picking on you or calling you out or anything i just noticed it on this pic and i was gonna use it as an example.

http://img1.putfile.com/thumb/3/6201323183.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=4903584)

ok notice when he colored the a arms and beadlocks you can still see the colors underneath them its cause theyre not desaturated granted this is an extra step and you still get what hes going for but im anal about my stuff so i do this 99% of the time so here goes

first open your pic, use a selection tool to select the area you want to color and go to image adjustments desaturate, the item selected will loose all color info, now make a multiply layer like in lesson 1 and just color it, if the selection doesnt come out to the color youd like because its too dark, (which is usually the case) go to image adjustments brightness and contrast, and play with the sliders there, youll want to lighten the area until enough so that you still have your shadows present and hit ok then follow the lesson 1 steps to color it.

when you put all these tools together you get this

before

after

if anyone has anything to add feel free i know there are lots of ways to achieve the same result in photoshop but these are the easiest to me and just for ****s heres some other stuff ive done
