GN4 is absolute CRAP. its only good quality is that it is dirt cheap.

I have switch to a couple of different oils, but the run I'm currently running is ELF synthetic 10w50. Prior to that i ran Amsoil 10w40. ELF is highly rated on bobistheoilguy.com and a good 3 bucks a quart cheaper than Amsoil (10/quart).

The cheapest good oil I believe is Rotella T (it's diesel oil, thats why it's cheaper) It doesnt run as cool as the Mobile 1 I used to use, but the valves seem to be very quiet and it runs very smoothly. We run them in a 400ex, 416ex, and my 250, and never had a problem. You really only notice the heat difference on the 416 though. I would definatly try it sometime, I think we got a gallon of it for the price of a quart of regular engine oil.

(just in case you're wondering diesel oil won't hurt your engine)

I'm not, I'm going on my own experience. GN4 makes your stuff run hotter and detriorates faster than a quality synthetic oil.

I dont run products because of a ad or a sponsorship or because X racer mentioned them in DirtWheels, I support stuff based on my own experiences with them. I ran GN4 for a while and after switching to Amsoil or any of the synthetic brands i've used, i noticed the difference in the quality of oil. I'm sure a used oil analysis would back up my claims, as well.

I'll say it yet again, if you have a problem with me or anything i say, TAKE IT TO PM.

Edit: I dont know the different weights rotella comes in, but i believe there is 10w50 and 20w50. Rotella is a great bang for the buck oil. Just be aware that the synthetic variant of it is not a "True" synthetic.

If you run synthetic for say 5 months, the next time you change it you can run semi synthetic, synthetic, whatever. You can even mix synthetic and non synthetic if you wanted to. Supposedly synthetic = better for your engine. Non Synthetic = Better for your clutch. Most people don't have any problems with fully synthetic though.

I forgot what viscosity I use during the winter. I'll have to go look sometime.

i believe the controversy only applies if you are switching from a non synthetic to a synthetic. this is because in an old engine, there could be a lot of sludge buildup. when the gaskets go bad with age, sometimes the sludge actually keeps the engine sealed. the theory is that if you switch to a synthetic, the detergents will clean away the sludge and cause oil leaks. atv engines stay fairly clear of sludge buildup, so switching from a non synthetic to a synthetic will most likely not cause any problems.

i SAY hands down stay with you stock oil they put it in there for a reason the only way i would change it is if you have a very same climate like florida cause if it gets cold anything othere then the stock oil the bike want like it will eat your motor up im not talkin 50,s but if it goes under thirty where you are keep stock
