What I want to do is send the head away to get bored and honed then I am going to install a wiseco 10:1 416 piston and a cam. (stage one or two?) I also want to get an airfilter and the outerwears airbox lid and a revbox. I have a pipe already, and I will rejet the carb. my question is, how will this hold up. Is there anything I am not doing that I need to. My biggest thing is I don't want this to break down I blew up my blaster because I built it up to much and I can't afford to blow up the ex. If anyone has just what I am doing done please respond, or if you know anything about what I want to do.

The 416 build up is extremely reliable but with 11:1 compression, you'll notice ALOT more power and throttle response. You'll need heavy duty head studs though. Should notice a good amount of power increase with the 10:1 and a cam too.

BTW...your head doesn't get bored, it's the cylinder. Your head gets ported.

the 416 is probably one of the more reliable bore kits you can put on an EX. It all depends on how well its built though. Buy a good set of gaskets (Cometic) and you should be okay. I had mine rebuilt this winter with the 416 and only rode it around to break it in, then I tore it apart to do some painting and cosmetics. I was not disappointed at all at how hard the 416 pulls. My mods are in my sig.

I meant to say cylinder I was in a hurry typing. if I ran the 11:1 piston would I have to run race gas and will I have to run 93 with the 10:1 piston. Also is the heavy duty studs something I will be able to do? and can I run the stock cam with either of the pistons or would that be a bad idea?

You can stick with the stock cam, but while you have it all torn apart you might as well drop an aftermarket one in. You will see noticeable gains...its worth the money.

stupid double post...

you might also want to look into getting a heavy duty timing chain while you're at it.

I just completed my 416 rebuild with a JE 10.8:1 comp. and hotcams stage 2 and just from the break in I can tell this thing is going to be fast. Colby suggested a stage 2 cam and I would agree. You will get enough bottom end from the 416. Also with 11:1 you can run 93 octane, or atleast I do and it seems to be fine.

I would say do it to be safe. I run 93 with my 11:1 also, however right now i had some race gas left from the sled so i threw it in there :blah:

wat is the cam? and how much are they?

You shouldn't have to run race gas with the Wiseco 11:1 piston. It is actually around 10.75:1 so you should be fine with pump gas. I only mix race gas if I am going to be riding really hard when it is hot out.

I built my 416 similar to what it sounds like you're looking for. (Mods in my sig) It pulls hard, and is a huge improvement over stock. I did everything myself with the exception of the bore, and so far I haven't had any problems.

I appreciate all the help I will get some pictures of the finished rebuild when I am done.

There is a dealer where I am going to get the stage 2 hotcam for 130.
