Too much oil: Oil gets up past the rings on top of the piston and then goes back through the carb/intake. seen it happen on a yamaha grizzly. Drain some oil, Clean the carb and air filter and run it good, should be okay if you didnt screw it up too much.

The KFX400 is a dry sump motor. I don't think it would suffer from the same problem as the grizzley since it's not. If you over fill the oil tank I can't see how this would cause your issue. Do follow his directions and look at your carb but their two different animals.

There's no oil cooler. When changing the oil, there are two places to drain from. The tank and the engine. It should take just over two quarts. What kind of oil did you use? Brand, Viscosity, synthetic...ect

Are the noises coming from the topend or the crank?

was this because of the oil or was the motor not rebulit in awhile because i dont see why too much oil would have caused this.

i read in a magazine that too much oil wont hurt anything, being that the motor is a single dry sump! the more oil (lubracating) the better. dont take my word on it

yah i wouldn't go dumping tons of extra oil into it but i highly doubt that to much oil would have done that but then again exactly how much oil did you put in?
