I got my 06 in feb, of 2006 and last month the starter went out.

I brought it to the shop for the throttle recal and was talking to them about the starter, they said they would contact honda and see if they would help with the repair.

he called today and told me honda is going to replace it free under warranty (its right at 12 months old).

I just got the second recall about the front bushings and he is checking to see what time frame the parts will be.

needless to say, Im glad I ride red.

So they are fixing the starter even tho its out of the 6 month warranty? Or do u have an extended warranty?

they are fixing it free, labor and parts included.

I dont have the extended warranty, just the 6 month that comes
with it when you get it new. It was out of warranty last august.

I feel a little redemtion for being loyal to the wing.

I have 2 dirtbikes and 4 quads right now and all are honda's except one (got a deal on a used suzuki for the daughter)

both myself and lonestar_r have the same experience with our starters being repaired with them out of warranty at no cost to us

Yeah Mine was a year old when the starter got fixed.....granted I wasn't having problems. But I got the update kit anyway

what is the update kit ?
I was under the impression they where replacing the one way gear and the smaller gear with stock.

the 07's where not changed other than a sticker saying not to give it gas while starting.

I hope they have a better or stronger one way gear for it.

Well that is what the service guy called it......I said to him is there anything different about it.....he said "not that I know of but they do have and update on it" something somewhere has got to be different in it...or they wouldn't call it and update. I give mine 5 pumps of the throttle and she fires right up with the choke on.

I did the same (usually about 3 pumps)

a couple times I must not have let it warm up enough because when I took off and got in it hard it backfired and died (it started right back up)

the tech said the one way gear can be shaved off by a backfire.
I never used gas while starting, I turned idle up a 1/4 turn etc.

Im just really happy im getting it back without a bill.
