Looking at a used 2004 YFZ in stock form. Any problems common with this year that I should be looking at? They are asking $3600 for it, seems to be in fair condition from pictures I have seen. Hoping to be able to set-up time to look at it soon, this a fair price?

i had a problem with the 04. The problem with the 04, was that the frame was breaking and bending too easily. If you are going to go over a lot of bumps or take a lot of jumps on, the frame might not take it. I had the 04, and this what happened to me. The frame problems went away of the 05 and 06, because the frame was reinforced a little better. This was a bad problem for me, and reverse wasnt on the 04. I need reverse for the types of riding that i do.

ha ha! I was just going to say that!! LOL! WHAT REVERSE?? I raced an 04 for years.....the only issues my 04 had was a leaking water pump seal, and the oil decomp plug popped out once.....those are both easy fixes. My frame was fine - I MX'd for years and never even gussetted my frame (which I would suggest for a heavier or far more aggressive racer).......sounds like a good deal!

i no thats why i regret to this day that i got the yfz. I would have rather gone with the 400ex. I do need reverse for the types of riding that i do, but hopefully soon i will get a raptor and everything will be fine.

I don't know what this guy is talking about??? The frames on the YFZ's where never an issue. I've had my 04 for 3years now and ride MX and trials. My frame is in perfect condition. As far as the frame being reinforced on the 05 and 06 YFZ's, didn't happen b/c it was never an issue. The Hondas had some issues with their frames on the 04 models, but not Yamaha.
