View Full Version : 2007 ITP/Yamaha QuadCross - Round 2 - Valley Verde Moto Plex

This is the first time that this series has visited this track out in Cottonwood Arizona. The track was not like the tracks that we are use to visiting. This track was full of jumps, and took some skill to even learn the entire track.

But the weather was perfect and with around 150 entries for the day, we knew it was going to be a good day for a race.

There was twenty-three riders and only enough spots on the gate for twenty-one so that meant that there would be qualifying.

The first qualifier consisted of:

Dustin Nelson
Cyle Chislock
John Shafe
Josh Frederick
Jason Fife
Dustin Terry
Kici Mckillip
Cody Roberts
TJ Dietrich
Mike Machado
Matt Motyka

Dustin Nelson was able to get out front right off the start followed close behind by Cyle Chislock. But he was able to maintain the first place position and take the win.

With the first quailifier finished, it was time to let the second one compete for their spot in the main. The second qualifier consisted of:

Kory Ellis
Jeremy Schell
Bubba Hustead
Keith Taylor
Chris Riley
Dean Pierce
Justin Noss
Landon Hurst
Phil Oppen
Nick Hengtgen
Ricky Nickell

Kory Ellis grabbed the holeshot eith Jeremy Schell right behind him. But it was Ellis who was able to take the win with Jeremy Schell grabbing the second place position.

The Pro Main was up, and all the riders headed to the gate. Cyle Chislock is one of the riders who stands out the most. Cyle signed with Monster Energy Drink for this year, and it definitely representing them well.

The pro class was off when the gate hit the ground. And it was Kory Ellis who was able to grab the hole shot, with Jeremy Schell right next to him.

Cyle Chislock had some bad luck off the start and crashed in the second corner. But he was quick to get back on his quad, and chase down the rest of the pack.

Kory Ellis was leading the race, and only putting distance between himself and the rest of the riders. But the read battle was for the second, third, and fourth positions, between Schell, Frederick, and Nelson.

Dustin Nelson was able to make his way around Josh Frederick, and was now looking for a way to get around Schell.

Nelson found a spot to make the move, and quickly did.

But in the end it was Kory Ellis who was able to take home the win.

The battle for the third place position came down between team mates Jeremy Schell and Josh Frederick. With Schell grabbing the last podium position.

Cyle Chislock was able to make up some lost time and take eighth for the day.

Nick Hengtgen who crashed during the main, was able to walk away from his crash, and still managed to get points for this round.

Landon Hurst who was involved in a wreck in his qualifier, managed to get out and ride for point in the main, and ended up eleventh.

Another rider who was involved in the crash was Bubba Hustead. Bubba rode the rest of his qualifier, but when he came off his hand was completly swollen. He tried to ride in the main but had to pull off after two laps because he could not hold on anymore. Hustead later went to the doctor and found out that he had broken his finger. He should be ready to go in 4-6 weeks though.

But at the end of the day it was Kory Ellis who was able to take home the win and the $1400 for they win.

Michael Sorchy grabbed the hole shot for the 4-Stroke Intermediate class.

Michael Scorchy grabbed the second place position with a 1-2 finish, and Ryan Cahill rounded out the top three with a 4-3 finish for the day.

Justin Hayward grabbed third place int he first moto, but had a bad crash in the second moto over the step-up step-down. Hayward went to the hospital afterwards and ended up having a broken collar bone. We all hope he gets better soon.

Shelby Buhrow is one of the only young girls that still race, and for that we had to give her some spot light time.

Austin Baxter grab the win with a 1-1 finish. Austin was even jumping one of the doubles on the track, that most of the other racers werent doing.

Clark Everham grabbed the hole shot for the +30 intermediate class. Everham also grabbed the win for both motos and took the win for the day.

The next round of the ITP / Yamah Quad Cross will be held at Arizona Cycle Park, in Arizona April 15th. We hope to see all of you back out there.

I got 15th in the Pro class. My name is K.C. Mckillip, I dont know what they did when they wrote KiCi. That was a fun track. I race a grey yfz, #47. Look for me next time, later.

Also, the track is called Verde Valley, and the women't int winner's name is Lynn Prosser......

I was wondering what kind of a name Kici was! LOL!!

Great weekend for motoworks/can-am team on the last round of the series at Glen Helen Brandon Smith, J Lawson,Josh Fredericks,and the new french guy whipped polaris in the open class.
