18mm, it might be hard to get one to fit down there though...

Try some standard sockets.

A Craftsman 18MM spark plug socket with 3/8 drive works great once you grind a 1/16 to 1/8th of an inch off the outside diameter. It slides right in and can be turned by hand easily. No need to pull the gas tank or plastics to get it in. It makes starting spark plugs a breeze. No worries of cross threading and with a torque wrench (13 ft lbs/156 inch lbs) no fear of under torqueing and it working loose or worse yet, over torqueing and possibly stripping the theads in the cylinder head. The best thing of all is the socket only cost $5.99 and it's a Craftsman! Here are a couple photos of the end product.

I used a standard 18mm socket on mine. I had the same issues getting it in there, had no idea what size it really was till i looked real close. The rocker cover gasket was sticking out some on each side. I took a flat file and filed the gasket flat with the rocker cover and slightly on each side of the rocker cover. Now the socket fits with no problems at all.

I just went down to my honda dealer and bough a "special" spark plug tool it was like 10 bucks and i dont have to take any plastic off either.

ok, i dont have a 18mm atleast not a long one. is there an easier way? i had to get in with needle nose pliers and im not even sure if its loose, i might be randomly twisting with my fingers for nothin, those japanese didnt consider american sized hands when they made these...it even looks like itll be hard with all the plastics off

DO NOT use needle nosed pliers. If you still have the tool container installed on your quad see if the original spark plug tool is still inside it. If not, than get the correct tool.

the pliers would just be to get it out not put the new one in and i only tried to twist with them twice. finally by ten last night the socket was shaved down and the new plug was in....what a pain that was, now i no what u gotta do so it'll be easier next time.

if you shaved the socket down already then just keep that for checking your plug.. i shaved one down when i did my 416 and put it in my toolbox for the next time...

i bought one from C&D and i believe it is the one that comes with your quad. i bought mine used and it didnt have it. It is akward but I dont have any trouble what so ever with it. It was about $10. You have to use a screw driver to put in the hole and use it to turn the socket, but it is easy just dont do it on a hot engine
