Not likley. ;)

The 250ex, 250x, & 300ex all have extremly low rev limits.

6850 rpm to be exact.
You can go up 1000rpm without even flinching. You could run them at 7850 all day without gernading the engine.

Remember Honda is very shy about putting any kind of performance in the sport level quads.

Increasing the limit will help you on those long straights through the fields where you're hitting the limiter now.

I have a 9850 rpm rev limit on my 330ex and have had no issues.

It's your CDI.
Not exactly sure where it is on the 250ex.. but from photo's it looks like it's right above the oil cooler on the front downtubes.

A little black box under your plastic behind your light inside a rubber housing. Unplug old one plug in new one.

the rev limiter is the CDI

it will not spark without a cdi

I was wanting to get a rev limiter for my '07 250EX and have been reading the forums. Where did you get that 6850 number? If you look at Honda's (http://www.hondanews.com/categories/180/releases/3541) site they say it is 8750. After I piped and jetted my 250ex, I put a fluke meter on so I could adjust the idle and see what the rev limit was - turned out my bike is actually about 8500-8600. So the question is making go up to 9500 with an aftermarket CDI will that be pushing the bike too much? I don't want to burn out the valves or do any other damage.

Thanks

Where are you at bwamos?

Working 12hr days? ;)

I stand corrected.

They must have changed the rev limit on the 250ex's from the original model. It had the same rev limit as the Recon when it first came out.

I hadn't checked to see if the 250ex info had changed over the years. I just knew it used to be the same as the Recon's rev limit.

Going above 9000rpm really won't help you any at all. And I wouldn't want to push a pushrod system above that really.

I know how that goes :eek2: I wasn't really trying to get you to eat your words - how the heck could you remember every spec?

I do appreciate the response and I will take your advice and will leave as is for now.

Thanks again!

Nah.. didn't take it that way.

I like to be corrected. Helps increase my knowledge.

I know the 300ex pretty well. Trying to learn the tidbits on the other quads. There's even a lot I don't know about the 250x where the circuitry is involved. ;) Even though it's almost the same quad.

Thanks for looking out. :D

IMHO just get the stock CDI/limiter modified.

my only question is why do you want to rev aquad that high, when it makes peak power before even the stock limiter will kick in? i can see these being on modified motors, but ive never understood why people put them on stock ones

It's not going to do jack in the tight woods, mx course etc..

But, a 300ex hits it pretty early. On a long straight between wooded sections in an XC race you can actually get a couple more mph out of it in 5th. That little extra edge. Or you can gear it down a little and still be able to keep up on the straights.

It doesn't produce more power.. but you still have "usable power" beyond the rev limit on a nearly stock 300ex. It will keep accelerating albeit not as fast as if it were modified.

It could be the difference in having to pass 2 more quads in the wooded section.. or them having to pass you. ;)
