Well I was with him drove it down the road ran into some steering issues. Adjusted some things, steering pump is used had alot of play not sure if its the problem. Frame flexxed alot so he braced it up and it rides alot better he says.

Its kinda hunkered down but the maroon f-150 in the lat pic is a 4x4. Lets just say its a big ranger!!!:eek2: We will get some more flex / othere pics once its all dialed in and worthy of offroading

Ya there are some brands like that out there. It is stupid I don't understand how they get so far off. I belive my buckshots on my truck are almost exactly 33s but I can't remember

Ya Thats what I say:macho But just think of it this way. HE loves modding his truck just like we love modding are quads. So when he sees my quad he says the same thing. Its nice why do that too it lol

Those shock hoops looke a little weak IMO. They look they could use some bracing where they mount to the frame. I would have done a 90 flange on the bottom of the shock hoop and mounted it to the top edge of the frame. If it works for you then thats cool though. I've always love the look of his ranger. I see your guys trucks on RPS all the time.

there area few engineering issues, but it looks good. with hard offroading i definitally see some breakage. nice job overall though, the truck looks good.

why only two link it? it would probably flex better with a 4 link or even a 3 link setup.

thats not down grading at all. everyone uses IFS now because it offers a smoother ride. solid axles are much better of road and stronger than IFS. and the older year rangers did not have solid axles, they used fords Twin Traction Beam front ends, which has got to be one of fords worst idea's ever.

What engineering issues? Not to be mean just asking for opinions. PLus we are not going to do any hard offroading mainly play around in field, go to the dunes and what not. Maybe do some mudding

Not sure why he chose the 2 link set-up I could ask

"two link because....

its simple
its good for road driving
still flexes good but handles well on the road
still durable
easier mounts on the ranger frame
still should flex really well, heck the stock ranger only has 7" of total wheel travel, i have that in down travel ALONE NOW!!!

and last but not least that is what i wanted...

i never said the TTB was weak, just a bad idea. horrible tire wear on road, wears out quickly. you go through ball joints and front tires like no other. plus when lifted the problems just multiply.

engineering issues, like someone else said the shock hoops could use some bracing. Also the D30 and 35's? that pushing it for that axle. 33's are the limit really for the D30, adn thats with light offroad, with 35's i don't really see that lasting to long. did you get the axle out of a jeep? i know alot of the cherokees at least came with the HP D30 factory. thats all i could really notice from the pics.

but yeah two link is simple yet effective, but if here were going to hard core offroad i would suggest a 3 link or a 4 link setup. but it sounds like the two link will be fine for what he will use it for.

Ya the shock loop/coils look weak but trust me there sturdy. But we are going to take it offroading sometime soon before we make the dune trip so we will test it then. Ya no need for a 3 or 4 link. Main thing we do is play in mud and snow and do some flexing. I still have to make payments on my truck and his truck is his DD so we don't need to go breaking stuff doing stupid stuff offroad. plus thats what my quad is for lol:macho

lol Don't take that the wrong way. Your buddies Ranger looks sweet! That is an acceptable amount of lift for those tires. I'm mainly talking about trucks that are lifted to the sky and dwarf the size of the tires they have on them.

Nice! :macho You guys have very similar trucks. The only lifts I can find for my Ranger are body lifts. Mine is the year with the torsion bar springs on the front. :ermm: Don't really want to put any money into it though. I declared this the year of the Bronco! lol

I pulled the motor on my Bronco a few weeks ago and am in the process of rebuilding/stroking it to a 393. I just finished making a list of parts (with part #s and prices) that I'm going to need. I already ordered the new crank and pistons so once the pistons get here I can bore my cylinders. I go to school for auto mechanics so I get access to lots of cool little machines. :D

Ok so its probably not the best for the guy who drives 50 miles one way to work every day, but for hardcore offroading you cant beat it. I'd rather wear my tires a little faster than break my front end off of my truck!

Anyways you guys both have some nice trucks. I really want to lift mine badly, but honestly its gonna put a hurtin on the bank. After I can buy something else to DD, I want to put on the camburg 4x4 kit. With glass fenders they still only recommend a 31-32" tire because of how much travel it has!

Heres a pic of my beater as it sits 31" mud kings and no lift! Factory LSD with a 4.0 and auto(unfortunately)

i will admit they do go pretty good off road, but i would still rather have a SFA anyday than the TTB. great for a desert bomber due to the long travel capabilities, but the articulation just isn't there like with a SFA. TTB is still independent front suspention so it will not articulate as well as the SFA will, even though it has as much, if not more up and down travel. trophy trucks us independent suspension similar to TTB, due to the long travel capabilites, but have you ever seen a true rock crawler with TTB? each has their own place, but both are good setups. IFS just suck everywhere though lol.

weaker? maybe? the ranger front only has a D35 Normal Cut Diff.

Improvements from the ranger setup.

Coil Spring (no more torsion bars)
Solid Axle (no more IFS)
Went from 7" of travel to 13"
Better pinion angle

Also I now have the initial setup which will make it 5x easier to go to a D60 or D44 later on. D30 works fine for now.

that is amzing, personally i'd just start with a solid front truck tho. Makes puttin in a 60 a hell of a lot easier

So you saying he should sell his truck (which was already very nice) and buy a old POS and strait axle it?

I think he made a good decision....he always told me when his truck gets paid off he is buying a car and making this truck his play toy.

I don't think may of you understand. He is just STARTING OUT WITH A D30. It was cheap easy to install and well it was right down the road from his house. :p Later down the road if something happends to the D30 he will install a D44 or something.

josh i havent read this whole thread but most and gotta say it looks good, alot of people dont understand what goes into a sfa conversion and making it still handle decent. theres alot of factors when selecting a front axle and if that was my project i would have used that little axle too, nice lightweight and it works. I was going to do one on my old s10 blazer back in the day just never happend. I had most of it engineered and its interesting. jeep axles are a good place to start on little trucks, other axles have to be shortened or perches changed etc. I was just going to do a spring over with custom made leaf springs.

Note that the front drive shaft isn't there:ermm: I always look for this on trucks that have been skyed for no particular reason and would be impossible to off road, its pretty common. I think its retarded.

my uncle had an older 80's era chevy with 44" tires. He could not keep a front drive shaft in it. so he just never ran it.. The thing would still go anywhere in just 2wd tho.

Update.....The steering is all F-ed up. He went into the ditch today after hitting a bump. and the sad part its better then it was before. Its going to the alignment shop soon and new steering shaft off a yota is being made since the stock ranger one he belives is in too much of a bind

gotta have a pic too:o

Ok the site won't let me load it:(

Edit - the reason he went into the ditch was the cause of the crappy steering. Not him being stupid

He had them on there once but it just didn't look right. I looked ok but I like the smoked version myself.

What he needs is some black headlights:devil:
