I bought my brothers 300ex and I have no idea what the locations are for the vent hoses for the engine. Can someone take pictures or details on where they go?

the top hose on the plastic tank goes to the top of the head, the lower hose on the plastic tank goes behind the jug into the crankcase, the back hose on the tank goes to the connection on your air tube going into your air box.
Hope this helps

That is the route for 99 to present with emissions. The 93 to 98 the tubes connect to the top of the head, to the cankcase and the other runs along the top frame rail and is held in a C shape clip, that is welded to the frame, toward the front of the frame rail.

so theres some type of emissions setup on the 99 and later 300's? does this effect the stock performance at all when compared to the earlier years?

Here is a picture of the vent tube system of pre emissions. Long tube goes down back of motor and drains on the ground. Short tube attaches to head vent. Mid tube runs along frame rail. I think this also came with a 28mm piston-valve carb. without accelerator pump. I believe 98 came with and with the emission depending on where it was sold.

Here is a picture of the vent tube system of post emissions. Long tube attaches to head vent. Mid tube to the jug by the timing chain tensioner. Short tube attaches to the air tube that goes between the air box and carb. And the white piece bolts to the frame. I think the emission bikes have a 32mm piston-valve carb. with accelerator pump.

The emissions i think is just so the oil does not leak on the ground if it was to get in the vent tube it would drain back into the motor. And this set up also makes it have less of a chance to get water in it because it get air from the air tube.
